Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

This is set up for laughs, but it’s actually one of the best demonstrations I’ve seen of how being capable of producing convincing sounding language and understanding meaning are two completely different things. A chatbot does not understand you, it just has automated responses based on your words.

Companies creating or using AI-generated content have to label it clearly for users to know, as part of an EU guideline implemented on Sunday. #EuropeNews

Great interview. Is always lovely to see proprietary engines in such detail, and it always makes me miss working on one of them 🥲 Anyway, once again:

It’s like hiking. Of course I could drive or whatever if getting there was the only reason but *the walking is the fucking point*.
can’t count the number of times I’ve arrived at a conclusion much better than I originally intended simply by writing. having the hazy outline of an idea and then foisting the rest onto a machine means you never get there. worse, you never develop the instincts or faculties necessary to get there

Every time I see someone say "indies will save us", I think about all the game dev mutuals I have who have made it very clear the same problems facing AAA funding are impacting indies, too.
Wanderstop studio Ivy Road to shut down on March 31. "One last surprise" planned for Wanderstop www.gematsu.com/2026/03/wand... www.ivyroad.fun/studioupdate...
I'm shocked that this is news for so many folks...
Exact budgets of video-game productions can be tough to corroborate (more transparency from publishers would be nice!) but the numbers I've heard floating around AAA game dev these days are $300 million or more — sometimes much more! — which I think helps explain the current state of the industry

This is also true for feedback from publishers/bosses. One example I always use: the publisher says "the cars are too slow!", dev checks max speed: 400kmh. Instead of modifying the speed, the dev modifies the camera and the FOV when the speed is bigger. The publisher loves it. Max speed is the same.
Remember: When you playtest a game, never take players’ feedback/suggestions at face value. Figure out what emotion is underneath what they’re telling you, and then figure out what in the game is causing that emotion

Call me crazy but maybe instead of selling games at $80 while they are on Game Pass, just release them at $50 and ditch Game Pass at launch. kotaku.com/outer-worlds...

#gamedev #indiegame

Totally agree!!! The photo realistic approach is not doing any good to reinforce the humor and silliness this franchise is known for.
Hmm. Gonna be honest, gang. I think the vibe is off in that new Fable. Fable is defined by stylized pantomime and this one seems to be written and designed for that, but with photoreal characters that barely express in their faces or bodies. It feels really discordant to me and way too clean.

6 game cancellations will mean many jobs lost in an already horrific market. Ubisoft cancelling 3 new IPs is especially heartbreaking: people are literally clamoring for something new instead of sequels on sequels. The workers at Ubisoft deserve better than this.
Ubisoft cancels Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake "discontinued 6 games that do not meet the new enhanced quality as well as more selective portfolio prioritization criteria at Group level. These include [PoP] remake as well as 4 unannounced titles, including 3 new IP’s, and a mobile title"

This is a huge crisis that we must do our part on by rejecting generative AI. The more it infiltrates our systems, the more fucked we are over time.
NVidia chief creep says resistance and scorn for AI have done a lot of harm. Good. Nice confirmation it's working. Keep it up. Although the main thing is this stuff is harmful crap so the mind and body tend to revolt against it automatically.
