Update: I wasn't the only disappointed one because after a month of "overwhelming listener feedback," they switched back to the classics.

Jeremy Fuller@fullervision.bsky.social

Moment of disappointment: I still listen to traditional radio. For the past few years, my go-to station was a classic country outlet in rural PA. Today I tuned in and, to my disgust, they flipped to a 90% new country format. Well, there goes THAT preset. At least I still have my oldies—for now.

There's something absurd about an awards ceremony for what's generally recognized as the highest annual award for American television—not actually airing on television. Not sure what the Emmys were thinking other than Amazon throwing money at them (typical).

People talk about this yet when a person needs something tangible, all of a sudden it's "you're not entitled to that." And you get slurs hurled at you. Isolation from social&romantic life is a fixable problem yet everything we're doing seems to be blaming the victim&moving in the wrong direction.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Our mental health is so important – everyone should be able to access the support they need, whenever they need it. You are never alone. Get help and learn how to help a friend in need:

With the Cola Wars back in full swing on social media, a reminder that Pepsi could have acquired the Coca-Cola formula decades ago, but instead of accepting it, they turned the person offering it (a disgruntled ex-Coke employee) in to the police for leaking trade secrets. It is all 100% kabuki.

#hottake "Born in the USA" is basically a loser's bitter rant with an anthemic but mostly unrelated chorus and synth hook that was tacked onto it to make an unsellable song a hit record. There are far better songs about the American experience than that, regardless of political persuasion.

A happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north. I'm from western NY. I watched Canadian TV growing up and had Canadian neighbors with second homes here. Our histories are intertwined, and quite frankly there is a national pride there that Americans could learn to revive. Eh?

I stopped into Aldi (the U.S. version) this past weekend to pick up a few groceries. Now they have a beer and cider section. And it is ALL KNOCKOFF BRANDS. I have heard of low-end beers (Milwaukee's Best, Keystone, etc) but never have I EVER heard of store brand alcohol. Aldi is nuts.

"That shooting attempt had to be staged! Nobody could've gotten though security that easily!" Bruh. Nobody in that room actually liked the guy. This was a situation straight out of an Agatha Christie novel.

How many Rosie the Riveters were there? This is at least the third time I've heard Rosie passed.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SFQ... Rosie the Riveter finally got her wings. Rest in Peace, Connie Palacioz. The 101-yo aviation trailblazer passed away peacefully at home on Sunday. #Wichita,KS

I found a younger relative's TI graphing calculator the other day. Eager to see if I could still program with it with TI-BASIC, I charged and booted it up. I was quite disheartened to find that TI has switched to Python. Now I REALLY feel old.

Week 2 #UFL (DC/COL) thoughts: - This is nice, old-fashioned basic football. Not surprised since Ted Ginn is a son of a HS coach. - I saw the Fox scorebug switch to pic-in-pic of the stadium scoreboard clock which I haven't seen on TV in decades. It works so🤷 - The Columbus Aviators fans TURNED OUT.

First thoughts on #UFL 3.0: - Still don't like the XP kick. The mandatory scrimmage play is a trademark of spring ball&it made the game more interesting. - 1ft in bounds is having a huge positive impact on offense. - Level of play still looks solid. - Kings Court sounds quieter than I'd expect.

The last season opener of any league that Matt Vasgersian called for NBC was the infamous XFL premiere 25 years ago. The Mets/Pirates Opening Day game went about as well as that.

Sad news—my CRT TV I bought for college 20 years ago(&kept working by hooking it to my laptop&Roku w/a Rube Goldbergesque series of adapters) now appears to be puttering out. Considering it came from Walmart, I'm surprised it lived up to its Durabrand name.

All I'll say is that if I'm the sixth man on the Siena bench, I am immediately putting my name in the transfer portal. Gerry McNamara showed a colossal mark of disrespect toward his own bench this afternoon, and it caused his team to blow what would've been a historic upset.

Recently saw a post from Andrew Tate yammering about the pointlessness of "sportsball." Professional MMA fighter, Andrew Tate. Our entire new media ecosystem is total kabuki. You cannot take the things he or anyone who hangs with him (ahem, Pearl, Nicky Fuentes) seriously.

Jesus. Netflix calls it quits, the Ellisons and Paramount will get all of Warner, including CNN. Bari Weiss's sphere of influence grows. And no matter what you think of CNN or news in general, it's a big legacy brand with a lot of reach, that will now shift rightwards pretty hard.

It is not an exaggeration that Today's Mini-Concert helped get me through the pandemic shutdowns. When it comes to the great American pop composers of the 20th century, Neil Sedaka belongs among them. He straddled the line between pop simplicity & classical variety. May he RIP.

Reckless Prediction: Patriots 20, Seahawks 17. Seattle may be the better team but the absurd lucky breaks that New England has had this year, especially in the postseason, I doubt that stops. I expect an ugly, bizarre game.

I was quite surprised how quickly these disappeared once Sora became the predominant AI video generator.

That also goes for those montages with Rhianna's "Diamonds" where the kitten shows up two bully cats by going on a spree of heavy construction jobs and fast food and all of a sudden owns a Maserati and the bully cats are just SHOCKED.

Briefly reactivating my Bluesky account to reshare this after yet another instance of funny business against the Bills in the playoffs. #BillsMafia

Jeremy Fuller@fullervision.bsky.social

I believe this moves Buffalo to 4-1 in the regular season against KC in the Allen/Mahomes era. You tell me there's no funny business going on in the playoffs since KC is 4-0 in that series. That much of a disparity defies natural explanation. #NFL #billsmafia

I, for one, am relieved Ohio State won. Last year when Michigan won, their fans chirped nonstop even though OSU went on to the CFP title & Michigan ended up 7-5. If OSU keeps rolling all the way this year (not a guarantee) there'll be no room to chirp. Both fanbases are painfully childish IMO.

You look at the world, and he has a point. Liberal democracy is a distinctly Western (Euro/American) concept, just as centrally planned states thrive best in East Asia. A government model works only as well as the citizens who it governs. The USA is finding that out soon enough.

John Q. Public@publius24.bsky.social

Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

I get that it's 38 seconds, you're down two scores with no timeouts, but Tampa Bay laying down&kneeling out instead of at least TRYING to win the game when it's still barely in reach... that's bad juju. That gets coaches fired. You could see Mayfield's perplexion at the decision. #NFL #BillsMafia

And on a related note... UP GOES SAM HOUSTON STATE! (I'm assuming that's the opposite of the "down goes" used when an undefeated team's winning streak ends)

Jeremy Fuller@fullervision.bsky.social

Somehow the CW landed the worst and yet the most entertaining game of the college football season. This is a glorious toilet bowl for the insomniacs. #pac12afterdark

Just heard Bobby Vinton's "I Love How You Love Me" in a commercial. That record's nearly 60 years old—the original that he faithfully covered is OVER 60 years old. Quite impressive how the music of the 60s/70s has maintained that much cultural relevance.
