It’s tough to see Trek cancelled. But Academy wasn’t canceled for being β€œtoo woke,” It was cancelled because so few watched. It just wasn’t that great. The characters, writing, editing, marketing and just choices in general took the worst part of Discovery and turned it up to Warp Factor 11. πŸ₯Ί

To those of you who did enjoy it, I am sorry for your loss. However, Paramount needs to keep a Trek series on air to keep subscriptions. They know that. With that β€œmagic number” of slots down to 1 now I’m excited for a creative shake up - hopefully moving production back to LA where it belongs.

Alright so my quick Star Trek Section 31 review. Any new trek is good Trek. The new era has given us lots of different types. We’ve had kid cartoon shows (Prodigy), Adult comedy (Lower Decks), Fun TOS style adventures (SNW), Serial Dramas (Discovery) and the epilogue of Captain Picard.

At the end of discovery we felt like Philippa was β€œmostly” reformed and good - but I wish they had played up that more. Give her a situational where the easy path was death and destruction and force her into purposely showing her growth and finding an alternative solution!

I know it was purposely set away from everything, but it sure would have been great to see the SOME Starfleet or more backstory to Section 31 and how they fit into this. In the end, just go watch it. Don’t compare it to other Trek movies. Pop some corn and be blessed we have something new. πŸ––

It was painfully obvious this was a TV Series. Converting it to a movie removes so much of the character development and cramped so much exposition into a truncated length. So none of the OMG moments really hit for me because we weren’t attached to anyone or anything.

That being said, the cast were great. The production value and special effects looked solid. The plot had potential, but just needed time to breath. They had an Oscar winning amazing lead actress who wasn’t given enough time to just act.

With Section 31 they tried something that felt like Suicide Squad and Oceans 11 blended together in Space. Personally, it didn’t really work for me. But once again, I’m not upset they tried. The movie itself had ups and downs. The biggest issue was driven by the format.

Spoilers… Probably just a fun cameo, but the fact they had the amazing Kristen Bell show up in-person to be shown only from the back, and in Eleanor’s last outfit no less… what a tease! Make me really hope this plays out! My theory: when you walk through β€œthe door” you are reincarnated.

Fun #UCF fact. The fight song is ripped off from Minnesota. It was tweaked when UCF joined I-A but still basically the same. Just sing the UCF fight song words with it. ( remembered this while the Mayo Bowl was playing and Minnesota scored 🀣 )
