📌New paper: Coupled Viability Architecture for Human–AI Interfaces Illustrated here are parallel developments (some already deployed) and proposed research directions for continuing development of a system designed to respect human limits. doi.org/10.5281/zeno...

doi.orgCoupled Viability Architecture for Human–AI Interfaces A Dyadic Co-Regulation FrameworkAbstract Current human–AI interaction architectures govern safety through Boolean switching: thresholds are crossed, states toggle, interventions fire. This paper proposes the Coupled Viability Archit...

Ethical behaviour isn't a matter of some semantically inferred set of rules. If a system does not (or indeed cannot) face consequences, it cannot be expected to operate within ethical boundaries.

Anyone? Anyone? A tariff bill... the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act which... Anyone? Raised or lowered? *Raised* tariffs in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government...

I want a fridge that asks "You sure about that?" when I open the door at 3am.

I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.

Audiences do not want movies made "the hard way" and that framing is ridiculous. We want movies made by people who care about what they're making. I don't care how they do it. If it's good, and it was relatively easy to accomplish, it's just as valuable. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...

hollywoodreporter.com‘The Odyssey’ Proves It: Audiences Want Movies Made the Hard WayThis year's breakouts like 'Project Hail Mary' and 'Obsession' were made by filmmakers who sweated. While CG-stuffed franchise disappointments such as 'Supergirl,' 'Moana,' and 'The Mandalorian and Gr...

Look, I don't like the tariff situation any more than the next person, but standing our ground is the smarter move. Going on the aggressive just to spite the current admin isn't good for anyone long-term.

Conditions will eventually change, and attitudes with them. Americans may end up needing our help to recover from all this, and I don't want us to be counted among those who kicked them when they were down.

Hello, compute store? Do you do samples? Can I get like, one compute just to try it out? I'll order wholesale if it suits. How much is like a case of compute? Does it come in bottles or cans? What's your return policy? ... Hello?

Nobody likes the messy middle ground between general belief and lived experience. Especially when resolving it is hard, or even impossible. But ignoring it is precisely what paves the way for authoritarianism of one kind or another.

The problem I have with crime debates is that they tend to operate on the assumption that all laws are just, and that enforcement is fair. The latter is demonstrably false and the former is a huge can of worms all on its own. Things should start with what constitutes a "criminal"

If you're a Canadian who's never spocked a fiver, I daresay you'll never taste a freedom quite as sweet. The new bills are probably dry-erase anyway. It's fine. Treat yourself.

I wonder if The Left™ have figured out yet that this obsession with puritanical enforcement of identity politics is a big part of why the Overton window keeps moving to the right? Probably not, but I can hope.

"Why, I had nothing to do with that algae!" said Thomas. "I'm on rails, FFS! I'll give that old bucket of bolts a piece of my mind!" And with that, he sped off down the tracks, as fast as his wheels would carry him.

Employers: You should be grateful for the opportunity. Employers when UBI comes up: But who will do the mundane, repetitive, or really gross things I don't want to do?

When the court of public opinion lost its curatorial bottleneck, flawed as it was, the hottest take began to frame the debates and algorithms ensured it would be a self-reinforcing feedback loop of feelings in place of productive dialogue.

I was on the front porch once and I saw a floofy little feather float by like in the opening scene of Forrest Gump. Then another. Then I noticed a small cloud of them drifting along the street. It was all kinda pretty until I traced the source to a hawk perched in a tree shredding a fresh catch.

They™ have been very busy for a while now. Between eating the dogs, eating the cats, and doing something to create the algae, I hope They™ are taking the time for self-care. It's important. There's an election coming.

Identity politics were never substantial enough to build a whole worldview around, but people did it anyway and now we'll be pushing back against tribal supremacy for the next two decades. Cool. Cool cool cool.
