Agencies/consultancies that don’t have the skills, or awareness. Enterprises buried in process. And then there’s “phase 2”: the politest way to deprioritise accessibility indefinitely. Part 3 of the series is up. gbbns.co/journal/orga... #Accessibility #Rant

gbbns.coThe Organisation That Never Prioritised It | gbbns.coAgencies that scope it out, enterprises that bury it in process, and the leadership layer above design and engineering that's been getting away with indifference for decades.

Same pattern, every team. Designer annotates everything. Design system specifies focus states, heading structure, the lot. Engineering ships something broken anyway. Not an awareness problem. A skills gap the industry built deliberately. Rant here - gbbns.co/journal/acce... #Accessibility

gbbns.coThe Accessibility Problem Isn't Design. It's Engineering. | gbbns.coAccessibility failures aren't design oversights — they're engineering failures. The full-stack hiring trend, AI-generated code with no context, and a compliance-first mentality have combined to create...

HERO vs ZERO I'm in a state of shock & still trying to process yesterday's shameful, traitorous debacle in the WH: A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY. Our standing in the world has plummeted overnight, but the repercussions will be felt forevermore. #SlavaUkraini🇺🇦 #ShameOnUS🇺🇸

Enjoying embracing the dry January challenge, it’s only been 4 days, which I know is nothing, but, head already feels clearer and sleep is better - despite horrible flu/chest infection.

Accessibility question: Expected behaviour for a user of assistive tech, the Skip to main content link, should it: a) go to and focus the h1 Or b) go to the main content (as one would expect? I know it sounds daft, just trying to get some insights to oust back with. #accessibility #a11y

Bluesky does have email based 2FA and you can (should) turn it on now. Not as good as being able to use an authenticator app, but better than nothing

You should always enable 2FA where it's available. It's not a 100% guarantee that your account can't be hacked, but it makes a hack significantly harder to pull off. Bluesky doesn't have 2FA yet. Which is a real shame. They say it's on their short-term roadmap. 5/7

My @perfnow.bsky.social slides will be up soon, but TL;DR: the web is losing, in part because frontend has been captured by charlatans. It's hurting users, and keeping the web from competing. To stave off irrelevance, the open web must deliver for users.

Watching the news, and boy is it depressing. Listening to the incoherent, tangent driven, ramblings of an absolute power-mad maniac 😢

RTO mandates are all well and good, until you’ve the point where you’ve been trying to get home for nearly two hours, and still have at least an hour left, all because the infrastructure in your country is awful.

One of the biggest issues faced this year has been how “design leaders” still don’t get accessibility. Good design is nothing if folks can’t use it. That’s not a difficult concept to take in, yet some “design leaders” still need you to justify it. Go figure.

It’s only after stoping to reflect on the year, in prep for an end of year post, I’ve realised how fucked up some of it actually was, but equally how it’s helped me grow. Thankful, as ever, for my amazing support network. Can’t wait to finish it. Already excited for next year.

First day back after a *much* needed two weeks off, and for the first time in a long while, I'm actually looking forward to going back - though the 05:20 alarm was somewhat of a shock 😂

Loving the influx of new followers on here, hoping to start reconnecting with folk and learning, like in the old days of the dead bird site.

Anxiety flare up, caused, ironically, by putting the fact I have anxiety/ED/depression on a form and now having to wait a call to discuss it.

This week has been just the tonic I’ve been needing for a long time. It’s been a long, lonely road, but going to Camp Digital has definitely kicked things back into gear. Hopefully things are on the up 😉

There's nothing worse (well for me at least) than a shitty event (which youve been waiting for) occuring and then the wait... The wait until it triggers my eating disorder. The last couple of days haven't been great, and I've felt utter shame, but I know I can get back to "normal".
