Our AG Raúl Tórrez has been on fire for NM! In fact, I think he can be considered the Katie Phang of AG’s! He has worked tirelessly to protect our children, personal information, our voting registration information, victims of Epstein, and has won substantial victories.

The judgment (the fine of $25-billion) is after the fact and the damage to the citizenry has been compromised. You cannot put this genie back in the bottle by making the well heeled Zuck who committed the offense write a post-dated check on appeal.

A judge on Wednesday ordered Meta to pay New Mexico $25 billion after a jury found the company liable for deceiving users about privacy and content moderation policies on Facebook.

The 2028 presidential election season unofficially begins in two weeks! Would be nice if the Dems spent the next two years going after the billionaires and the Epstein class with the same drive and ferocity as the GOP when they go after immegrannts and people with brown skin. READ THE F-ING ROOM!

To have a civil judgment canceled, you must file a motion with the court asking the judge to vacate or set aside the judgment…I assumed Musk would have the Trump DOJ file a motion to vacate, then appeal when motion to vacate is denied, until all appeals are exhausted…->

…then the U.S. Supreme Court could be petitioned to review the judgment, but the Court chooses which cases to hear and accepts very few…so no…I don’t!

A $25 billion receipt for years of 'we take your privacy seriously.' Meta will appeal it into the ground, but the judgment is on paper now.

Katie this just came in. The USDOJ refuses to prosecute the Epstein Class. Congress is burying everything Epstein. In New Mexico our AG/DOJ is taking the lead! AG Torres doesn’t play. He’s also suing for compensation for the Victims. koat.com/article/new-...

koat.comNew Mexico DOJ alleges Epstein associates helped finance abuse, seeks to halt estate payoutsNew Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez is announcing civil enforcement tied to Jeffrey Epstein, joined by two survivors.

It is long past the time to start holding these behemoth companies accountable for abusing the American public. $25B is but a pittance to these organizations. It doesn’t hurt their bottom lines, but it definitely gets their attention.

It was intentional—not careless. Facebook/META’s “product” isn’t “Social Media,” it’s sharing user data to anyone willing to pay for it. META claims they don’t “sell” user data… It’s all semantics. The judge saw through the BS. www.bbc.com/news/article...

bbc.comMeta fined $25bn for 'lies' over user data privacyThe fine is the largest to date against Facebook's owner, larger than an $18bn deal with California.

If you use the worldwide avg monthly Meta user figure of 3.9 billion, that comes to a whopping $6.41 (six dollars & 41 cents) per user. They’re getting of lightly.

Excuse me, Attorney Phang, you forgot to mention when all of the consumers whose personal data was breached would be receiving a check from Meta. Soon, right?

Aw, geez… for going after his tech bro pal Zuckerberg, trump won’t want to just rename New Mexico, he’ll want to deport it. 😳

It doesn’t change the fact that the user data was shared though. How can the privacy be restored? You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Or is the result now that Meta has to inform us that they are stealing/sharing/surveilling everything but it’s in such fine print no one ever sees it?

OK how many years of appeals before Meta has to pay a dime and my impression over the last 30 years is that very large awards are almost always reduced on appeal Meta's annual revenue is ~US $200 billion so this is one of the very few times a judge orders a fine that actually will bite a little

Per Reuters, the jury found more than 43 million violations of New Mexico's Unfair Practices Act, about $219.5 billion at the $5,000 maximum, which the judge cut to $25 billion. Meta says it will appeal. Full story

That's what a state can accomplish when they actually *want* to win and not be bought off with lowball settlement and sone back-scratching (looking at you California 🤔🧐🧐🧐)
