I am a bit irked by how the research/interest in LodgeNet lies solely in the game system part. Don’t get me wrong, I grew up playing Paper Mario on LodgeNet but there’s a lot more to what is a rather revolutionary (and early) on demand media server packaged up in a user friendly way.

PCs could barely play DVDs and here is LodgeNet playing out multiple MPEGs simultaneously over several analog cable channels, all on a closed circuit. Is that not fascinating? I sure think it is.

Jim Cantore replying to a conservative conspiracy theory account on Xitter kinda puts his new NOAA director interview into some interesting context, especially when he brought up Sharpiegate and the director gave a non-answer, blamed “haters”, and didn’t hit back. Rather disappointing.

the most depressing thing I’ve read so far, what do you mean they’re shutting down the NSSL? 😭

Robert Rohde@rarohde.bsky.social

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions. GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc. This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth. www.commerce.gov/sites/defaul...

It is just a proposal but we’ve seen those in charge get away with anything, sad that just one budget proposal can just kill off all the life saving research labs and push us right back to where we were in the 1950s

Fun first day at VCF in Dallas. Lots of people showed up and stopped by. Looking forward to seeing more faces this weekend. I'll be there all day tomorrow (Saturday), as well as Sunday afternoon. Hope to have someone to keep the TV running while I'm absent Sunday morning!

You are up to date.
