Thought I’d never heard of this one and then realized I did disc at work and was pissed I came out as only one thing instead of mix

If Books Could Kill@ifbookspod.bsky.social

Episode 55: Surrounded By Idiots Have you ever wondered why people have different personalities? A guy who’s not a psychologist is here to explain it during a mandatory workplace training.

Lots of serious work gets done that you never hear about until you cut the funding and no one can do it anymore so it becomes a crisis

Oliver Willis@owillis.bsky.social

screworm outbreak is another good opportunity to remind americans that government is what protects us from things like this and not the magical free market. want safe food? government, bitch.

The first would be Jane Austen of course, but the sleeper is Elizabeth peters bc I love her. Including the Barbara Mitchell’s ones. I also read a whole bunch of Mary stewart after reading the Merlin series

I fully believe living in a big city without a car for years made me braver in the day to day than other people. It’s really weird

Dannagal Goldthwaite Young@dannagal.bsky.social

Years of media framing cities as scary and violent will do this. Research shows that the the strongest media cultivation effects (media shaping our perception of reality) occur when audiences have limited direct experience with the “scary thing.” So, Fox News plus living in a rural place = this.

A lot of chatter about this nonsense but the thing that strikes me is the men who ARE doing this work have largely female audiences Ps I hate the ‘getting laid’ framing it’s gross. Sex is supposed to be a shared experience bw two people who are both enjoying it let’s start there.

Ian Dunt@iandunt.bsky.social

OK so feeling slightly apprehensive about this, which I suppose is kind of the point. This is an attempt at a progressive view on masculinity and on men getting laid. God help me. iandunt.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...

In today’s episode of What Are They Thinking: “If you don’t see a hurricane coming… does it really exist?” 🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season. Brilliant timing.

The absolutely misinformation that is pushed the minute anything bad happens and is consistently pushed once you find out that duh, the man who assassinated dems was actually conservative? Is horrific and pointed

Adam Kinzinger@adamkinzinger.substack.com

Hey there Scott Walker. I noticed you deleted this after learning that in fact the shooter was from the right. I don’t think it matters either way, violence is violence, so I’m waiting for you to tweet the same thing with corrected facts? Cuz you’re uh, to use your words, “being silent.”

Classic ‘when the facts change I change my mind what do you do’

A hallmark of conspiracy theories is treating "secret" documents as a scandal even when their contents disprove the conspiracy theory. In this case we have leaked slack chats that show the scientists believed the lab leak, looked into it and then stopped believing it. Nothingburger!

It’s almost like these federal agencies and employees had a purpose our present administration was too stupid to value?

I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.

Lots of women were breaking codes and didn’t talk about it bc it was secret what a cool thread

The New York Times@nytimes.com

Julia Parsons, a U.S. Navy code breaker during World War II who was among the last survivors of a top-secret team of women that unscrambled messages to and from German U-boats, has died at 104.

This is absolutely 🦇 💩 why are we letting this man make decisions

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

I’m in a pediatric hematology oncology physician group on another site & the fact that kids with cancer & US citizenship are being deported was brought up & the comments section was full of similar stories of kids completely lost to followup the last few months bc of this hellhole we all live in now

Do people know that In addition to firing a bunch of feds they are also reducing their benefits significantly? Do you think they could find a new target soon? Can only get so much blood from a stone

"Why have I wasted so much time eating vegetables? And flaxseed? What even is flaxseed? Give me some ultra-processed, teeth-rotting cake that bursts like sunshine and rainbows in my mouth."

What we are finding is that people will justify any evil based on ‘cost cutting’ and you should be very wary of it

Good lord. This is an Utah State Senator. “If we can solve any extradition issues.” No need to worry about that pesky 8th Amendment…

Listening to this story about everybody dying in a hurricane and some wild weather employee antics as a distraction today #savelibby #libraries Always enjoy Erik Larson books though In the Garden of Beasts would probably be more relevant to today
