We’ve received our annual hamper of #Tuscan goodies from Fattoria #LaVialla, the best part of which is always the #chocolate truffles! 😋🤤🤤 And they added a free bottle of their medal-winning wine to say thank you for the order, so we’re very happy! ❤️❤️

I sent a short article about my visits to 6 of the German Gedenkstaette / Memorials (former concentration camps) to the Guernsey Press and Jersey Evening Post. Channel Islanders were at each of these sites.

The annual problem of writing a lecture on carbon dating when all of the copyright-free images online are of hearts, flowers, and couples staring into each other’s eyes. No mass spectrometers. 🙄

I can safely say that not a single one of my ancestors held this particular bowl, or else it would have been smithereens long ago. The women in my family have butterfingers.

A #Roman glass bowl, in a beautiful cobalt blue with an irregular swirling white pattern. It looks amazing - especislly given that it is nearly 2000 years old! #Archaeology #AncientBlueSky

In the mediaeval period, all the dragons in #Jersey were killed and buried on the beaches. Today, when the tide goes out, you can see spiny crania everywhere and … what?… oh, all right, they’re spider crab shells. Spoilsport.

Just some of group of 60 international colleagues who gathered at the University of Cambridge for very successful conference #Holocaust #heritage in the 21st century, which I hosted with colleagues Ola Janus, Tali Nates and Steve Cooke. Exhausted but happy! Thank you everybody who attended!

The rubble from destroyed #Nuremberg is equivalent in height to the #Cheops pyramid. It was spread over the area surrounding the Nazi party rally grounds. I wonder how long till an archaeological project excavates the rubble? #ConflictArchaeology #WWII

This is a street in #Nuremberg restored after severe bombing I’m the war. But it would be a mistake to think that the whole city or even old town is restored like this. I wonder how they chose which streets or buildings to restore?

Out of the window of the #Nüremberg courthouse you can see the prison where the Nazi leaders were held. Or rather, that part of the prison was pulled down in the 1980s. You can see the white wall where it was demolished.

Went to the Nazi party rally grounds in Nuremberg today. I’ve read Sharon McDonald’s book ‘Difficult Heritage’ and things have changed since then. They’re renovating it and planning new heritage interpretations.

I visited #Dachau today. Quite a different atmosphere to other former camps. I wonder if this was because so much has been demolished and rebuilt? This building below, the Jourhaus, is original. #Holocaustheritage #SafeguardingSites

Visited the White Rose memorial in #Munich today. Their story underscores the importance of critical enquiry, independence of thought and reading. So next time your students want to use #AI, tell them that they need to learn the traditional way to help them know how to fight fascism!
