So excited to be attending PAX West this year! It’s always a great time and a solid way to reinvigorate one’s love of games. If you’re attending the show and want to chat voice over, games user research, or just how you felt about Pokémon Worlds, feel free to reach out!

My brain is buzzing a bit today, so I thought it might be nice to turn my energy towards celebrating some of the books I’ve read so far this year! This will be a short and sweet collection of my (non-comprehensive) thoughts. If you want to hear more about any title, let me know!

This Story Might Save Your Life. A great little beach read. A podcast host has gone missing. The story alternates between a memoir about the founding of the podcast and the present search and rescue. It’s always nice when a story can be boiled down to, “man, so-and-so really was a real one.”

The Complete Guide of Videogame Performance Directing. Tom's approach to acting/direction - especially in the hyper-practical world of video games and motion capture - is quite illuminating. A great source of good questions to ask oneself when approaching an audition or scene.

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. Oh I love when genre fiction is used to scrape away artifice and present a glaring mirror back at reality. In 1912, a pastor and a vampire meet for a confession and explore the history of the Blackfeet nation and the genocide of the American West.

Cinderhouse. Cinderella wants to attend the ball. The problem is that Ella died years ago. A fairytale reimagined as a ghost story, this novella is just a little delight. Lightly gothic, touch of body horror, warmly queer, and short and sweet.

The Jade City series! A Succession-style family drama but with characters you actually like. Jade, a substance that imparts augmented powers, is the backbone of Kekon, and we follow one of the two major clans that rule the city. Gorgeously written and with some of my favorite audiobook narration.

The Spear Cuts Through Water. Where to even begin? A meta-narrative wrapped in a meta-narrative, all in service of an epic adventure and love story examining who we are and where we come from. Tricky to get into as it sets up its stage, but once the curtain opens, it’s a beautiful tale.

The Tainted Cup series 1-3! There are titans storming the sea walls, the population is mostly sterile due to rampant body modifications, but none of that matters because we have a murder to solve! Sherlock Holmes meets Attack on Titan in this eco-punk delight. I want 40 more books in this series.
