Yikes. Trying to get quotes for shipping as I put together the final parts of this project and it seriously looks like shipping anything from Canada to Europe is an arm and a leg. If I'm sending a $30 item, I don't want to be charging / paying $80 in shipping O_O

The small things that love looks like. I make sure that the gluten free sandwich bread I buy is safe for my partner. They usually make their own bread, but this ensures they have a backup. Today they needed that backup, but wouldn't have left enough for a sandwich. So they opened a new pack.

I am pushing to finish a bunch of mid sized stuff today because I expect my covid shot on Tuesday to knock me on my ass. I've also scheduled a Necromunda game for 4 hours after it. Based off my track record, it certainly can't make me *less* likely to win lol

First five RPGs: 1. D&D 3.5 2. Vampire the Requiem 3. Mage the Awakening 4. Shadowrun (4th edition) 5. Star Wars: Saga Edition Somewhere around SR4 and SWSE, it becomes a swirl of chaos of one shots of games I thought were cool...

Charlie Stross@cstross.bsky.social

1. Basic D&D, supplemented by White Box supplementary kipple 2. AD&D (original, as it came out) 3. Metamorphosis Alpha 4. Traveller (original) 5. There is no 5.

Deserves a read. I've been clueless and probably accidentally creepy in the past - but I would never have even dreamed of pulling this kind of crap. Plus, I grew out of most of the above by 25 and it doesn't sound like this dude was that young...

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that

Well, Alberta didn't vote to cut off our own feet (or, at least, to hold another vote on it) but it looks like enough have voted for shooting ourselves in the feet to provide ammunition. The other questions on the referendum are looking split and leaning toward racist :/

Reminder: I have books! I just released Keepers of the Flesh, which is, among other things, a discussion of... parenting? XD

Happy book day to me! Keepers in the Flesh, the sequel to Seekers in the Void, is now available on Amazon. To protect his ship and his crew, Captain Cirilo Webster must pay the Company's most dangerous game: politics! Buy it now: Ebook: mybook.to/SV2Keepers Paperback: mybook.to/SV2KeepersPB

"On Canada’s coat of arms you’ll see the Latin motto Desiderantes meliorem patriam. In English: β€œThey desire a better country.”"

Albertans: go vote if you haven't. knowthenine.ca has all of the questions, it's good to know what's on the ballot ahead of time They do have a bias, one I agree with (I donate to them) but even just having the text in advance is a good thing!

knowthenine.caStay in Canada. No to the Nine.Use Alberta's Voice's interactive ballot guide to review all 10 referendum ballots before you vote.

The Alberta referendum on if we should have a referendum is tomorrow. Ignore the doomers and conspiracy people. ignore political accounts pretending to be experts bc they read a CBC article. Ignore the "Alabama of Canada" people bc they don't know anything about Alabama and/or Alberta.

I want to thank Canadians across the country for their moving words about the horrific tragedy at CFB Wainwright, and more specifically, medical first responders from Saskatchewan who rushed to help their overwhelmed Alberta colleagues. It is powerful to see Canadians stand and mourn together.

The upside of discovering nitrogen-packed gluten free tapioca free oat free bread on Amazon: we actually have a source of surprisingly fresh bread we didn't make ourselves. The downside: forgetting my baguette in the microwave is a five dollar mistake.

Heads up! This is a thread - more like a library/compendium - of my columns, speeches & podcasts about Alberta's referendum questions. I thought it might be useful if I gathered it all in one place, organized by time and topic. #Alberta #notothenine #abpoli #cdnpoli

Catie's covers are awesome πŸ‘ There's a lot of thought and back and forth with the artist that goes into a good cover. It's not easy from either side! (I'm pretty sure I've driven at least one artist nuts over the years)

Not gonna lie, I take ENORMOUS pride in my book covers. My personal bar is that a reader shouldn't be able to tell from looking at my covers that they're self-published, no matter what genre I'm working in. <3 :)

I almost feel bad for this poor gig driver in the book. Weird gig? "Pick up this cat from the front desk of my apartment building and deliver it to this address." Worrying gig? Getting to that address and not having anyone answer the door. (Thankfully, the book's MC woke up in time.)

Read this. It's scary. We spent $80K on trying to promote one of my books to traditional book stores. At the time, I think it was my worst first in series launch. I got a very cool spaceship model that lives in my office out of it. Uh... Also an influenza-induced heart attack from Book Expo...

The problem is that "top 20 on Amazon" can be a fleeting thing. Like a day. Or an hour. Even now, though, I don't think I count as midlist and while I've hit the top 50, I don't think I've broken the top 200 in years. Being visible on Amazon has grown a lot harder. (Also, check out Zack's book)

Top 20? I was thrilled when I got in the Top 20,000 If you are in the Top 20 on Amazon, I don't think you are "midlist"... Anyways, please preorder my new book, coming Nov 10. Currently #490,362 in Books... link.amazon/B08vFV37c

This kitty is ten years old. Give or take a day or two. We've had her since she was about a year old. We have *easily* broken ten grand on specialists and surgeries and procedures. We knew we were adopting a difficult case and, honestly, didn't expect her to make it to ten. But she's happy & here

This feels very familiar

Today I replied to an e-mail from a friend I really like, who is awesome and cool and whose e-mails I love to receive. I had been wanting to respond for a while but somehow just… did not. The e-mail I replied to was sent in January, 2024. Why am I like this.

I misjudged my ingredients (the recipe gave pumpkin in "cans" and I only realized mine was twice the size of what they expected as I was putting it in) *and* my gluten free pie crusts are apparently shallow. So instead of one pie I have two... And a good bit of leftover pie filling
