there is a bug in bytearray in pypy3-PyPy8, I need to get in a car in like 3 minutes does anyone else want to report this

in the original game, “sam altman-fried” was the first level boss again with a palette shift and a second health bar, due to resource constraints. in the remaster they added a custom model and separate attack animations but if it seems like the previous fight all over again that’s because it was

it's that time again, I am almost afraid to look up why .2 is so soon after .1 after what this week has been like

Over sixteen years of federal financial disclosure forms, Chief Justice John Roberts mischaracterized more than twenty million dollars in household income from law firms appearing before the Supreme Court. He concealed his wife’s equity stake in her employer for three consecutive years. He […]

Have I mentioned you should vote? You should vote. If you don't have a plan to vote already, make one today. Unless you're in Brazil, in which case, just celebrate, awesome job, everybody else do what they did

and get your covid and flu shots, if you haven't yet. I have panic attacks from stuff related to needles that are so severe they're often mistaken for seizures, and I already got mine. if I can do it, believe me, you can do it

The good news here is that part of the reason we've lowered the goal here is that we have heard about a few donors who have gone outside of ActBlue for various reasons, either directly or via Oath, so we have actually raised more money than it looks like. But it would be great to get it to "look […]

every minute I spend thinking about this metrics-driven bullshit is a minute I am _not_ making any _substantive_ long-term improvements. and I'm mad _that_ I'm mad because it's actually great to get these as _regular bug reports_, allocations _should_ be bounded, I would like to gradually make […]

okay I've found something I super don't like about the new mastodon UI: - notifications now truncate way more aggressively, so I can barely even see what is being liked/boosted sometimes - clicking around on linked posts causes WILD amounts of scroll-jumping on long threads. if there are a lot […]

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

I am just absolutely fuming about this because in the words of one of our users, "the vulnerability scanners are panicking". there is a huge amount of incentive right now for projects to disclose everything and not request CVEs because the infosec industry is just a giant mass of metrics-driven […]

I hate how much work it is to operate internet-facing services these days too but for fuck's sake people you need to learn what watchdogs, ulimits, and load balancers are _before_ you expose something publicly. if you want to help the open source community sign up to actually add features that […]

a bunch more of these are probably going to drop so I need to find ways to yell this from the rooftops more loudly: if your system is architected such that your availability depends entirely upon a *single-threaded protocol parser* running on a single core remains unblocked regardless of what […]

twisted is deficient here in several ways, chief among them that we do not ship a supervisor process that makes it easy for you to manage resource usage in multiple processes, or our own hardened internal load balancer. but the idea that "remote network traffic can cause memory allocation" (even […]

Today's AI product/recruiter spam has the subject line "Did we solve the trolley problem?" and I really want to yell at somebody.

it is surprising and worrying to me how many people are independently making this joke these days

look I know LLMs are problematic but this is my favorite one and I promise it’s fine, everybody else just isn’t using theirs responsibly enough. it’s great; you should really give it a try. you’ll love it

LLM users I know I come across as harsh sometimes but I promise you, I am only angry at a few of you and I am really worried for all of you

if you have less than $50MM chances are low that I'm meaningfully angry

I should stress that only US citizens can donate to campaigns. No idea if that was the issue here, it could be literally any kind of payment problem, but I figure I should repeat it given the highly international nature of my platform.

If you donated please check with your payment processor and make sure you didn’t get a fraud flag. Some credit cards really hate it when a bunch of small charges all come in simultaneously, and that’s what happens here because you’re giving directly to each campaign and not to us or to ActBlue.

Code is read more often than it is written. The more code there is involved in a system, the more reading must be done. Therefore the most important change control to implement in any system which will see long-term maintenance is to rate-limit the addition of new code to keep reading easy.

I just wrote this in my own notes about Greek philosophers taking the slave underclass for granted, and I invite you to weaponize it against the deserving: "He sounds like the kind of man who expects his mother to come do his laundry at Walden Pond."
