At this year’s Labour Conference, we believe our very own Vice-President, Sonya Davis, became the first Black woman to chair Conference. Another glass ceiling smashed by a GMB woman. A long overdue piece of history, and one we couldn’t be prouder of Sonya for making. 🧡 #BlackHistoryMonth

Reports of backsliding on minimum wage consistency for younger adults are concerning.  18-21 year olds don't have lower bills. They don't pay less rent.  We need equal minimum wage laws.  #WagesNotBasedOnAges

Octopus may have signed a sweetheart deal, but they haven't stopped GMB. We represent hundreds of Octopus workers and will continue organising across the business, supporting our members and pursuing our recognition campaign. GMB is here to stay.

Care workers were "fed to the wolves" in COVID. Lessons must be learned. #CovidInquiry

The Jackdaw announcement is great news. Burnham’s government deserves real credit for doing the right thing for our country. For too long, this and other vital decisions on gas supplies and storage have been put off: risking our energy security at a time of worrying international volatility.

Our carers were on the front line during the pandemic. Vulnerable and exposed as care homes turned into morgues. That cannot be allowed to happen again. We look forward to working with the Government to enact the inquiry's recommendations. #CovidInquiry

Government must not shy away from nationalising Thames Water. For too long it has been left: resulting in crumbling infrastructure, rocketing bills, uncertainty for jobs and pensions. We need a water industry fit for the future. It must come back into public ownership.

BREAKING 🚨: 50 workers at a vital defence manufacturing site have begun a week of strike action 👏 The firm is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of advanced electrical components, primarily for the defence and aviation industry.

BREAKING 🚨: Hundreds of Sunderland care workers have voted overwhelmingly for strike action 👏 The mostly women workers have an equal pay claim against the council after their jobs were outsourced - slashing their pensions 🙅

More than 300 staff at Sunderland Care and Support (SCAS) voted in favour of industrial action during the indicative ballot, which closed today.

This #BlackHistoryMonth we want to highlight heroes from our union. Alvin Christie came to the UK from Jamaica to help with the war effort. He worked in a tank factory, joined GMB and became a branch activist - blazing a trail for black activists in our movement ✊🏾

School support staff in Merton get less in London weighting than teachers. It’s not right - and it must change 💪 That’s why they marched on the Department for Education #LondonWeightingNeedsInflating

This #BlackHistoryMonth we want to highlight heroes from our union. Aurellia Martins worked at Oakfield House, a care home on Wimbledon Common. Management refused to organise transport for the women working long and anti-social hours.

After one of her colleagues was sexually assaulted, she took a stand and won the battle for safe working conditions for herself and her sisters 👏🏾 She was the first black woman to receive the TUC Gold Badge for her services to trade unionism. #BlackHistoryMonth

BREAKING 🚨: Amazon are using AI monitoring systems to track their workers' activity 📹 The sophisticated "Atlas" system has been found in warehouses in Canada - and is designed to predict where workers' might start to organise 🙅

GMB WIN 🎉: Coastguards secure GMB recognition 💪 Coastguards are set for union recognition after the Maritime and Coastguard Agency agreed to talks with GMB 👏👏

The £500m handed to teachers from school support staff pensions could have: 🏫 Given every teaching assistant £1000 🎨 Boosted school support worker pay by £600 School support staff are badly paid and undervalued - and rightly furious at the decision from government.

The PM’s speech was full of hope and addressed issues GMB members face daily 💦 An actual plan for water 🧑‍⚕️ National Care Service 🧍 Help for young people 🔥 Reduced energy bills The Government must now roll up its sleeves and deliver 💪

Apprenticeships are vital: for defence manufacturing and for young people's life chances. Watch our member and Appledore apprentice Jack Partridge 👇👇 #Lab26

The Chancellor’s speech was full of hope and optimism for a reindustrialised Britain. From shipyards in Devon, to Merseyside, Rolls-Royce in Derby to the banks of the Clyde. GMB members across the UK can’t wait to get started on a steady drum beat of work that can transform their communities.

Today’s announcement is a massive boost for our shipbuilding sector These yards have kept our country safe: the ships that beat the Armada and the Bismarck. But for too long contracts have been sent overseas. This policy will reinvigorate UK yards and the communities that depend on them.

At #Lab26 and want to hear more about school support staff’s concerns? Come to arena room tees to hear from our expert panel 💪

BREAKING 🚨: 100% of Barnsley nursery workers back move to strike vote over pension threat 💪💪 Outsourced company Limetree wants to slash their pensions and remove death in service payment 🙅

If there’s a surplus in school support staff’s pension scheme - it should go to them. Not used to boost teacher’s pay. School support staff are the lowest paid education workers. Why should their pension scheme be misused this way? Our letter to the Education Secretary 👇

GMB WIN 🎉: Uranium enrichment workers secure 4.5% pay rise The new pay deal at Urenco's Capenhurst site has ended strike action - with backing from 80% of workers 💪

Raiding school support staff pensions to fund teacher's pay is a disgraceful move. Slashing teaching assistants, catering staff, and other workers pension contributions to pay for a £500m teacher payrise isn't acceptable We are taking our members' concerns straight to ministers

BREAKING 🚨: GMB analysis shows that more than 600,000 council workers have been lost since 2012 🚛 Staff such as carers, refuse workers and teaching assistants are disappearing across England and Wales - with the East Midlands worst hit 🙅

500 million bricks are sitting unused in warehouses. That's enough for two Kidderminsters. All as brick manufacturers are mothballing plants. And housebuilding targets will be missed. We need a joined up strategy for housebuilding: to protect jobs and deliver homes.

We've polled our school support staff members: the findings are shocking 🏗️ Almost 1 in 4 work in buildings with asbestos 💩 More than a quarter in damp + mould 🌊 Over half face leaky roofs 🏃‍➡️ 35% lack key PE facilities 📚 17% don't have books for all ages This can't go on.

Octopus Energy needs to recognise GMB. We have hundreds of members there who are clear: they want their union to negotiate with bosses. Other energy suppliers work with unions to improve pay and conditions. Why not you @octopus.energy?

The Bank of England has paid a record £35m in bonuses. But their boss Andrew Bailey has previously called for wages to be curbed to halt inflation, All as his staff are landing tens of millions in 'performance awards'. One rule for me, and one for thee. It just isn't acceptable.

Today's launch of driverless taxis in London is concerning. There is no plan to deal with the fallout of potentially thousands of people losing their jobs. TfL and the Government urgently need to consider the consequences.

In an ever-changing world, the UK having its own tech infrastructure is crucial. We do not want to be reliant on other countries. With the right planning they can be powered with clean nuclear power. But we need skilled union workers to build the data centres.

BREAKING 🚨: Belfast airbus workers start strike action ballot 🪧 Over 90% of workers rejected the pay offer - at a site of almost 1600 staff 🙅‍♂️

BREAKING 🚨: Thanet bin workers begin industrial action ballot over management failures 👏 Over 50 Thanet refuse collectors say they have had enough of councillors’ excuses over the state of the district 🚮

On Ukraine’s independence day we say clearly - Slava Ukraini! Today and all days, GMB stands with Ukraine 🇺🇦

BREAKING 🚨: North Somerset bin workers vote for strike action 👏👏 Over 100 workers backed action over pay - with workers in neighbouring areas earning £4ph more 🙅‍♂️

Asda's move to outsource its cleaning staff is wrong. 3500 people are now worried about their livelihoods. Outsourcing has a track record of slashing pay, conditions - and even jobs. This is no way to treat your loyal staff Asda.

Just 14% of England's waterways are in good health. 14%. It's a badge of national shame - and privatised water companies must take a massive chunk of the blame. They’ve been allowed to pump sewage into our rivers, as massive dividends take priority over infrastructure.

Self-driving robotaxis in London are a worrying development. How will drivers be supported to reskill if their jobs go? How will public safety be impacted? Who is liable for accidents? What implications are there for disabled passengers? We urge TfL to proceed with caution.

We need urgent assurances over reports of an AstraZeneca merger deal. Workers are anxious. Mergers too often come with cost cutting measures. Jobs slashed. Plants closed. Management must meet with us, the workers' union, ASAP.

We agree with the PM - care workers should be the best paid in society. Without them there is no transformation of care. Their voices must be central as the PM leads the changes social care desperately needs.

Trump's tariffs are a mess. They could spell catastrophe for industries and lead to job losses and lower pay for workers. And now the EU has a better trading relationship than we do - undermining the so-called ‘special relationship’.
