Microsoft and Blackrock have "have largely given up on organic adoption [of AI] by consumers. They have moved on to a new dream of forced adoption mandated by government and managerial coercion." Fascinating piece here on what Davos can teach us about the AI industry by @mattseybold.bsky.social

Incredible scene in Seoul tonight as President Yoon Suk Yeol’s supporters are storming the Seoul courthouse in response to his arrest. They are smashing the windows and vandalising the offices.

I'm not sure that Bluesky is as important as the fact that thinking people spontaneously found an orderly way to disembark a burning dumpster and reassemble at the most sensible rallying point.

This is basically what happened in the drug war in the Philippines. I can’t recommend this @frontlinepbs.bsky.social documentary enough. Facebook is ubiquitous in the Philippines and this video explains how it was used to promote slaughter. You can watch it free here: youtu.be/JQpjfWV_p6E?...

It’s worth studying the slaughter unleashed by ex Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte. He killed up to 30,000 poor people in a futile attempt to wipe out drugs & his main communications vector was Facebook. Watch Nobel laureate @mariaressa.bsky.social explain how it was used to silence opposition.

I've been thirsty for this thing since it showed up in the back pages of Guitar World in 1986 and by god its mine even if I did have to pay for international shipping

its ominous how the closer we get to the us presidential election, the platform of the former GOP continues to be whittled away, and soon will merely require the word "sameness" to express it.

West Virginia story that I don't think was ever reported. Our idiot governor, Cecil Underwood, introduced James Earl Jones as James Earl Ray at some paid appearance for Bell Atlantic. He left immediately after his remarks, don't blame him. Probably wasn't the only time that happened.

When the enormity of the world's horrors makes you feel helpless, narrow your focus. Find one stranger and scold them for posting a recipe while kids are dying. Call out a new mom for not adding alt text to a baby photo. Critique a selfie. Correct a joke. Show people you care more than them.
