I wrote a guide explaining how I built this website. It should double as a tutorial for anyone who wants to follow the same process. In the final section I answer an interesting question I encountered: "How are there enough IP addresses for everyone on the internet?" gourdisin.space/2026/howto.h...

I am being the change and have created my own website! I'm mostly going to use it to post about stuff I've been reading, check it out! The final section is the origin story of my stupid handle. gourdisin.space/2026/about.h...

One of the most remarkable ruined places in history is the sunken ancient Egyptian city of Thonis-Heracleion. Once a thriving hub of the ancient world, the city was devastated by a series of environmental disasters, and now lies 6.5km off the coast in the blue waters of the Mediterranean sea.

Look at the sheer dedication of this Acorn Woodpecker. Absolute dedication to his craft. He's turned this tree into swiss cheese in order to store his acorns. I love any animal that pursues a task with ferocious single-mindedness like this.

I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/why-is-eve...

equalityalec.substack.comWhy is everyone lying? What do Malcolm Gladwell, far right propagandists, Democratic politicians, the non-profit Vera Institute for Justice, and “socialists” from Jacobin Magazine have in common?

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Too much discourse not enough posts celebrating bats during bat week. Disappointed in all of you, take a minute to think about what you've done and be better.

No one is making you post about the ch**s*c*k* f*ct*r* you could instead be looking up pictures of leaf nosed bats and sharing them with your friends

Next up in my occasional series: "Can it swim?" BATS!🦇🏊 As video captured by Rob Mackereth (@mack2526 on IG) in the Lake District, England shows, bats can indeed swim. In fact, they're pretty good little swimmers. But there's an asterisk. Also, standard disclaimer: do not handle downed bats!

This comic is so good if you want a spooky story you gotta stop and read it

I'm going to start this thread on the presidential count in Brazil—so people who are interesting can follow along. With 3% of vote counted, Lula up 51.3 to 48.7 (that's a lead of 103K). Pattern in 2022 & in R1 was Lula down big at 1st, then closing gap, but that's shaken up by today's 2-hour delay.
