Travis Knight I swear to god you are hereby banned from doing the “object/character passes in the foreground to obscure the cut” trick. You met and exceeded your quota, my guy.
New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day.
Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.
In my survey of Dario Argento, I have come to the conclusion that introducing him to the sonic profile of Metal was an extinction-level event for his whole vibe.

There should be a donation threshold beyond which they promise to NEVER TEXT. Like, if I was going to donate $50, and they said "Donate $75 and we'll never contact you again" I would do it.
Do they even understand how much they’re pissing people off by doing this.
Whatever research that convinces them that spamming everyone is all upside is bullshit.
It is like they’d rather have all my contact info to sell to other campaigns forever than receive my donation. It sucks.

It’s folly to narrativize a filmmaker’s career, but after seeing You Can See Everything, it’s pretty easy to see why the experience led Lance Oppenheim to:
A) make anything other than a documentary, and
B) make a movie like Primetime specifically.
Movies used to have fun bullshit titles like Your Mind is a Filthy Mirror and I Must Wipe It Clean or whatever and people clamored to see it. Now if a movie has three or more words in a title it’s a sequel or something most of the time.
Much like Phish, there’s this guy named TDK that has followed TMBG for over 300 shows. Met him on JoCo Cruise. Nice dude. It’s a band that has meant a lot to me since I was a kid, and that love has never gone away. I can attribute a lot of that to how consistent their output and quality has been.
Top of the US charts today in 1979: Herb Alpert’s “Rise” — famously recorded in one take.
Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental.
As Miles Davis said: “You hear three notes and you know it’s Herb Alpert.”
This commercial for French's Mustard from 1987 is equal parts charming and also kinda unsettling, but what strikes me is the work that went into the absolutely delightful puppetry and practical effects for a *mustard commercial*!! Imagine that today??
Digger is weirdly like Megalopolis (though more successful) in this way. Is it well executed? Arguable. Is it raising points that I can’t stop thinking about in ways that annoy me to admit? Undoubtedly.
I dunno that Digger will make my year-end top 10, but I've probably enjoyed thinking about it more than any other movie released this year so far. Every time I think I've decided how I feel about it, I find a different thing to think about.
