🥇 🌱 A diocesan first for St John’s, Pendlebury! 🥇 🌱 Huge congratulations to St John the Evangelist Church, which has become the first church in our diocese to achieve a Gold Eco Church Award, the highest level of accreditation from A Rocha UK.

I'm SO excited about the revamped bee project! As it develops, we're hoping there will be loads of creative opportunities. But people can support the urban biodiversity work now through hive sponsorship. Could be a great gift for someone? Email heavenlyhoney@manchestercathedral.org if interested!

Heavenly Honey We are 'buzzing' that our cathedral bee project is relaunching! You can get involved with supporting the project. Our honey will be sold through the cathedral and there is an opportunity to sponsor part or all of a hive Email heavenlyhoney@manchestercathedral.org

Thomas Clarkson preached a sermon in the cathedral on Oct 28th 1787 that launched the anti-slavery movement in Manchester To mark this, local actor Sam Courtney will take the stage in the nave and give a dramatic reading of the sermon Come along to hear the words that helped to change the world!

The Care Bears Movie. Just looked it up- 1985 In a cinema that still, I believe, has an ice cream interval

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

Heartbroken by this decision, and not just because I’m involved in producing content for it … it must cost pennies to run, but brings joy, focus and anchor. And a reach of (c.) 1.4 million listeners a week (so I read yesterday) is far from disastrous …

I am really sorry to see Radio 4 Extra is going. I loved working there for many years: being part of the 7th Dimension (with Toby Hadoke, Dan Mersh, Nick Briggs et al) was an absolute joy. I don’t think listeners ever realised -

About to lead a webinar for over 200 people in Finland, including church leaders, lay and ordained, and congregation members. Very excited and also very pleased that their English is far superior to my Finnish!

I walked the 3.5miles to the cathedral where I work as it was a beautiful autumnal morning and I knew I'd benefit from fresh air and time to think I didn't realise I'd also find a load of sloe berry bushes on the way! Guess what some people will now be getting for Christmas?! #Winning

This morning at Synod it was announced that we have our 1st Gold Eco Church @manchester.anglican.org The people at St John's Pendlebury have worked with great dedication, to decarbonise and lead the way in creation care. Delighted our 1st gold award is a local parish church - a real encouragement

Hannah Malcolm is one of the most perceptive and articulate theologians I know and she's gone off to be a priest in some working class part of Newcastle instead of occupying a corner of the Ivory Tower. She did leave us with a book though. Go buy it: www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/1...

Comment to me after delivering a talk that included stuff about the climate emergency "I don't mention 'climate change' as that makes people uncomfortable. Instead I use the phrase 'rising sea levels'" 🤯 #ClimateChange #ClimateEmergency

Ladybird were not holding back on how we were screwing up the world and environment back in 1976 … I wonder what I made of this as a small child? Also fifty years later are we much further on?

#MorningPrayer Infuse our hearts, our souls, our minds, and our lives with your grace, Lord Jesus; draw us into your way of hope, into the abundant love of your kingdom. Use us to turn the world upside down, that passions for power, wealth and empire may be subsumed by your love.

My dear 'big' sister A force for nature A beautiful human being Fiercely intelligent, funny, compassionate Deeply faithful Two days ago I anointed her, blessed her and said goodbye Rest gently, Maya

I often talk about Eunice Foote - the woman who first talked about the possibility of climate change and was not even allowed to present her own work. An iconic woman who deserves her place in the history books #EuniceFoote #ClimateChange

The cathedral beehives -an endless source of fascination Our beekeeper told me there was one hive where the bees were always angry. She realised it was the hive she would tend to last, at her most tired, and the bees were reacting to her mood When she changed her routine, they were no longer angry

Very sad news from the cathedral this morning

Manchester Cathedral@mancathedral.bsky.social

A message from the Dean: I am saddened to inform you that Canon Andrew Shanks passed away yesterday after a short illness. He served as our distinguished Canon Theologian for many years at Manchester Cathedral 1/2

A must listen. So well researched, very sobering at times and grim how history appears to be repeating itself in some ways
