If the votes aren't there for impeachment, they aren't there to override a veto, either. So really, when you look just a little, this is advice to Do Nothing. Disgusting.

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

Went down a rabbit hole - @itsamia.bsky.social posted about inventing an astrology system a while back. So now I'm in the middle of a mechanized process to generate a solar system, find a habitable goldilocks world, generate a night sky with x value zodiac constellations,

and actually be able to generate a chart on a given world from it. The interpretive text humans should write, so just the mechanics - kind of a fun little side-task

seeing someone post "I'm waiting on a late invoice payment and I'm overdrawn" and boy does my heart go out. Getting stiffed on 2 invoices for a total of around $5k is how I wound up homeless and lost some very good friends.

confirmed that the ballot mailed to me and never delivered was returned to the county elections by the post office as a cast ballot and rejected because of no signature match. Was told they would send me a new ballot last Wednesday. No ballot received yet. The Post Office is screwing with elections

Yay, arteries are stable, legs aren't getting worse and maybe a little better, no new surgery in the cards, no new meds, and a whole year til the next ultrasound.

An around-the-world cruise for 8 people. My grandkids, of course, their father, me, and 4 others.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

They started on illegal immigrants, expanded it to legal immigrants, now are going after naturalized citizens. If you are not one of those groups, you are just somewhere further down the chain, but they will get to eliminating your rights eventually too.

I know of a major telco who tried that. It lasted less than 1 day, when it was boosted to $2k per month. For reference, Anthropic calls plan tokens "promotional" - full use of a $20/month plan would bill at about $1200 if you were paying metered rates.

I made a "Canadian girlfriend" reference today, and was reminded of high school... didn't have a girlfriend until I was a senior, and she went to another school. So I got the "haha sure you do" response. Then she showed up at my school and draped herself all over me - except in class, of course.

it turns out that “optimize for engagement” and “optimize for societal best outcomes” are opposing goals and if you look at the entire history of the tech industry you can see which of those two wins out

Denny Carter@dennycarter.bsky.social

Facebook back in 2021 temporarily turned off the “drive people insane” setting and it completely changed what people were seeing. They turned it back on when engagement dipped by like 1 percent.

"Wow, good thing that those flying leopards eating the faces of those Russian data centers would never eat the face of any data center anywhere near me-and-mine"

Got a "look for your ballot in the mail" email Monday. Haven't seen it through today. Get a "Post Office has picked up your ballot for return delivery" email today. Shenanigans, I'm guessing.

In other words: This meme is a surprisingly accurate scaled depiction of the magnitude of the 2026 El Niño event vs the 1997 event *if using the absolute index.* But if using the relative index, Danny DeVito is currently the same height as Arnold Schwarzenegger. And either pairing is striking... 👀

Daniel Swain@weatherwest.bsky.social

Wading into the "relative versus absolute" El Niño intensity debate: I genuinely think both are important--and I think we lose important information if we focus solely on one vs another. And both, as of late Sep, have now reached or exceeded record levels! [Thread]

As I've said multiple times at this point, "The Internet Is Not Real Life" should be understood as an Aspirational Statement rather than a Descriptive one.
