This isn’t true. These people paid into the system working 2nd or 3rd jobs. They’re due no less than anyone else who paid in. ‘That's because this change will obligate the payment of more Social Security benefits to people who are not paying into the system.’ reason.com/2024/12/16/t...

reason.comSenate tees up $200 billion Social Security giveaway to public sector workersThe Social Security Fairness Act will boost payouts to public sector workers who receive pensions and did not pay taxes to support Social Security.

Actually, it would pay benefits according to what workers paid into the system. If a worker pays in all of his quarters PRIOR to, or in addition to, working a job with a defined benefit plan, why shouldn’t they receive their earned SS upon retirement? www.marketwatch.com/story/the-so...

marketwatch.comThe Social Security Fairness Act is incredibly irresponsibleInstead of being fair, this legislation will lead to harsher and faster automatic benefit cuts for most of us.

Where do they go from here? Who leads? How do they decide? How will their new government function? Many unanswered questions.

🇸🇾👀 Syrian rebels have entered Assad's palace in Damascus. What Russia has been building in this country for almost 10 years has been destroyed. ‼️ This morning, the rebels announced the beginning of a new era. People in Syria are celebrating in the streets.

Today, #KashPatel sent a letter to my counsel @markzaidesq.bsky.social threatening to sue & demanding I retract my MSNBC comments on his unfitness to serve as FBI Director. This follows his threats against media & political opponents, showing how he might act if confirmed. I stand by my statements.

Truly under appreciated how much bigger houses are now than back then.

Matthew Yglesias @mattyglesias.bsky.social

There is a lot that we could and should do to increase housing affordability, but the basic reality is that a nice suburban 1950s family house would be *tiny* by contemporary American standards which is why they were affordable on lower incomes.

Fred Wellman@fpwellman.bsky.social

I am concerned that this chatter like WSJ OpEds, Hannity pieces, and Economist articles about cutting VA and veterans benefits are trial balloons. They’re shaping the discussion so anything short of cutting all of our benefits, healthcare, and closing the VA is a “compromise.”

This is a damn good thread about the implication of executing the ideas that Musk & Ramaswamy have on reducing the cost of our professional military. Well done, @carriealee.bsky.social

Ok, let’s have a conversation about the true cost of the AVF, which it appears Elon and Vivek are just now discovering. But also why it’s the best system we have and why advocates for a return to the draft are fundamentally unserious. Buckle up for a fun #civmilsky thread 1/

Even if you're not moved by the argument that Twitter is a rightwing cesspool thanks to its redpilled owner, the fact that foreign enemies are expressing concern that they won't be able to use Twitter to manipulate Americans anymore should be enough to warrant the exodus.

If you needed even MORE of a reason to switch to Bluesky, China is "troubled" by the fact that they've invested so much time on Twitter buying ads, bots, and influencers... only to see the people they're seeking to manipulate (us) flee the site. www.semafor.com/article/11/2...

Rep. Dan Goldman is absolutely correct here. People voting for Trump has nothing to do with dropping criminal cases. That's why we have a jury trial that is controlled by facts and evidence. And when a jury did get a chance to vote on his criminality, they convicted. www.cnn.com/2024/11/25/p...

Congratulations to those who voted for Trump. Your food won't be produced here because he's rounding up immigrants, you'll be paying 25% more for anything from Mexico and Canada In 2022, Mexico and Canada supplied 53% of fresh fruit imports and 89 % of U.S. fresh vegetable imports.

it's clear now that republican trolls are squatting here. i know it's tempting to engage, but i cannot stress enough that blocking is the only way to preserve this community. block and move on. block and move on. block and move on.

In Rio Bravo, Colorado says that Chance and Dude were the only ones that saw the murder. But Dude had just knocked Chance out. Who knows what Dude saw. If Joe had just awaited trial, I think he’d have beaten the murder rap. A lot of senseless killing. 🤣

PCE inflation has fallen to 2.1%—nearly at its 2% target—and incomes are up nearly $4,000. The economy has grown 12.6% under President Biden—more than any presidential term this century. 16 million jobs created and the lowest unemployment in 50 years. 🚨 Do not let Trump take any credit for this.

Do MAGA folks, and republicans in general, believe that proposed draconian cuts to the federal government will result in lower taxes and more money it their pockets? They do?…that’s sweet…

But that could change soon. Trump advisors have publicly stated they want the FBI to be run by Trump and they see nothing wrong with a president overseeing case openings and closings. The potential for abuse of power is significant.

When right-wing scum tried to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, Republicans made excuses. When a lunatic beat Paul Pelosi with a hammer, they made jokes. And when Trump sent a mob to attack the Capitol, they made up lies. Don’t lecture us about condemning violence.

What did you see? You campaigned on Trump’s disqualifying actions and words yet you ultimately endorsed him only to be humiliated by him after he won. Maybe you sit this one out.
