It sounds revolutionary, but it's got to be better than what we've got now.

Edward Cornwell@hopper3011.bsky.social

It would entail a complete restructuring of society, it works well for those in charge if we're all too busy surviving to get involved in politics, but imagine what would happen if the energy people put into a place like this could do if it were properly directed.

Lula should ban, restrict of heavily fine Meta and X if it's proven they interfered with the election.

Jim Caris@jimcaris.eurosky.social

Reminder that they also did this to Zack Polanski during the Holborn & St. Pancras by-election. Can't help but wonder that was a test run for future elections, such as the one that's just taken place in Brazil

Especially when some companies are borrowing huge amounts and using it to pay dividends. Like Thames Water, seem to have done.

Richard Murphy@richardjmurphy.bsky.social

Why do shareholders get the rewards when workers create the wealth a company generates? Is it time to rethink just what companies are for and to require that the rewards be shared more fairly? youtu.be/15r28WaimP8?...

I believe Switzerland have something along those lines. How practical it would be in a larger country I'm not sure. But certainly sounds more democratic.

Edward Cornwell@hopper3011.bsky.social

Direct democracy

We need that in the UK.

Incredible. Student List are candidates selected by groups of students to form an anti-corruption party. Another youth-led movement overthrowing an authoritarian government in Europe.

They won't stop, but they will almost certainly ramp it up. The only hope for the world is if people more for Green parties around the world. Although ending government subsides to all fossil fuel companies and investing it in green technology instead will help.

"The report, led by @kevinclimate.bsky.social from the @tyndallcentre.bsky.social, found that wealthy countries such as the #UK, #US and #Australia had until 2034 *to stop all oil and gas production* to give the world a 50% chance of preventing devastating climate breakdown"

The only possible reason for Trump siding with Putin is that Putin is either paying him or has kompromat on him.

Michael McFaul@mcfaulmike.bsky.social

Helping Putin at Ukraine's expense doesn't make America safer. It emboldens Russia, undermines our alliances, and risks encouraging other autocrats to believe that aggression pays. Standing with Ukraine is both the right thing to do and in America's national interest.

The rich claim and get many times the amount of benefits that poor people get.

The NHS, decent pay and state pensions are easily affordable if we stop the millionaires and billionaires creaming off the UK's wealth. Unfortunately, we haven't got the politicians willing to take them on. Except for the Greens. Which is why the right-wing media are now targeting them.

Europe needs to ratchet up military supplies to Ukraine several-fold.

The 'not in the public interest' excuse, is used to protect the rich elite and their puppet politicians.

AnthonyF272@anthonyf272.bsky.social

I sincerely hope that the Met is genuinely investigating him and that we don't find out later that it is "not in the public interest" to make any charges.

The Conservatives are promising 50,000 new prison places. To put this into perspective, this is the same party that managed a net increase of about 500 in fourteen years.

Mandelson made the Labour party into the Tory Party mk2.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

Peter absolutely saw the Labour Party as an adjunct to his personal influence peddling project, and I see few signs that any of his pals seriously disagreed or thought that was bad.

Brexit voter. 'Boris Johnson convinced us that everything would be better if we left the EU, but it's been worse'. Why do the British working-class still believe upper-class toffs, when history shows that they wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

They say taht China is bad because it's a one party state. But in so-called democratic countries, replacing one neoliberal party with another neoliberal party is pretty much a one party state.

The protest have spread to Serbia. That is Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Turkey, India, Indonesia all protesting at the same time. It's time to force the billionaires out of power.

Business advertising should not be tax deductible. Why should we all pay for companies to flood us with advertising every minute of the day? If a company wants to advertise outside of its own website, or business premises, they should pay for it themselves. This would save the government billions.

Can't it be reported to law enforcement. Or whichever body oversees electoral integrity.

The should stop paying presenters and journalists obscene wages, which would save them hundreds of millions. Paying people like Kuennessberg several times the amount the politicians they interview get paid is unjustifiable.
