YES! @geoffgraham.me now has ownership of CSS-Tricks. I'm thrilled our stalwart publication has returned!

CSS-Tricks has a new owner! Yes, I've got the keys to the castle, so to speak. And, even after 12 years of working on the site, I'll admit I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous about that. https://css-tricks.com/css-tricks-has-a-new-owner/

$446 million of his (sometime) reported net worth of $1 trillion means he’s still only spending 0.0446% of his net worth to try to buy elections. put in more concrete terms: if you had $100, this would be like spending less than 5 cents. now tell me again why i should vote against a wealth tax.

I have friends who worked on Wildwood, and I got to visit the incredible set in person. The level of craft is extraordinary, and as of this writing it has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes: Opens in theaters today, support stop-motion animation and go see it! #animation #stopmotion #movies

I found a cheap, used Hue Bridge Pro, and upgraded over the weekend. One feature that blows my mind is the fact that the bridge can turn Hue bulbs into a motion sensor by detecting interface in the Zigbee signal. We don’t really have a use for it, but it is amazing to see it work in real life.

Seriously. I have watched this three times because it is so good. Watch all the way through to the end.

Wow. You really have to watch this whole clip.

📍On the ground in Portland, Oregon This No Kings day is filled with music and joy! AND a reminder to VOTE & to encourage your friends and family to do the same! Make a plan at vote.org 🗳️

Our son’s door broke this morning, and he couldn’t get out to go to school. I climbed through the window and spent about 30 minutes trying to get out (hinges froze, latch stuck, etc.). Finally, used his school id from last year as a shim to push the latch back. He thought it was all hilarious.

I’ve been looking forward to receiving this text message. My ballot is on its way! Vote early friends.

Remembering that time when some big name accounts were arguing that X is all good now and the algorithm has been de-Elon'd. Wait, that was yesterday. The same time this was happening.

The invoicing system we use recently changed to include a button that says, “Send invoice via mail.” The button still gives me pause. Are they going to print it out somewhere and physically mail it? Nope. Just going to send an email.

Insightful Ezra Klein interview with David Robinson who left OpenAI’s safety team over concerns that no AI companies are doing adequate safety work. Nice to hear perspective from someone who came from outside SV. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/0…

AirPod cases are Apple’s most incredible engineering feat. They somehow made the springs invisible. There are no springs in the case you say? To which I respond, drop a case on the floor and watch those AirPods shoot across the room and tell me they’re not spring loaded. Amazing work. Every time.

*so important*: if you’re voting by mail, assume the USPS will delay because it’s its policy. You can: —put it in drop box —go to counter to watch them postmark in front of you —if you’re dropping it in a mailbox, do it VERY EARLY.

Holy shit.

BTW, hat tip to @adactio.com for pointing me to many of the articles I’ve been sharing. His RSS feed of links has always been great source, and it was one of the things I tried to catch up on this weekend while I was sick. adactio.com/links

I don’t know for sure. But it’s something I’ve been thinking about as I try to find motivation to write about web technology again. I can’t tell if there is something real there or if I’m just trying to trick myself into doubling down on something that isn’t working because it is all I know.

In the past, it was hard to convince the average web developer that there was an advantage to taking the time to stay on top of the latest web standards. Maybe that can change if the human in the loop is responsible for closing the gap between what a model knows and current browser capabilities.

But AI has destroyed that. Inbound traffic has decreased. People don’t seem to be reading articles either because it is easier to ask AI for the answer or because it is impossible to find quality content on the web amongst all of the slop. Not to mention the death of many web conferences.

For years, people found @cloudfour.com because the articles we shared or the talks we gave. Our peers would learn from what we wrote and then when a project came up at their company, they’d suggest working with us.

We liked sharing what we learned perhaps even more than we liked the project work that paid the bills. We’d write about whatever we were learning about. People would read it. We’d get more projects and then have more to write about. It was a virtuous cycle.

Do AI-generated emails commonly include postscripts? It seems like every inbound marketing email I’m deleting today includes a P.S. or P.P.S. I hope this isn’t like em-dashes where I’ve been using them for years and now they are signs of AI usage. At least I still have footnotes in emails. :)
