Wow, #log4shell memories today with the #PHP security disclosure. Behind #Java servers are usually a lot more people than behind PHP servers. I know what that s*** means, so stay calm, everyone, and update. Or take it offline while you fix it. It costs money, but it may be worth it. Stay safe.

the sad thing is i don't feel to urge to talk to colleagues b/c i talk to ai so much these days luckily my wife makes sure i come out from the basement from time to time

After a long time, I have submitted a talk for a conference again. Travelling and speaking isn't trivial for me. But I realised I probably need to do it again. And want it, too. Back into the saddle! Hopefully they accept the talk, and I'll see some of you there. #speaking #conferences #java

#HumbleBee is out: a local-first open source time tracker with CLI + GUI. It started after a canceled flight in San Francisco and a night at the airport, when I began using AI to learn Go faster. github.com/grobmeier/hu... PS: timeandbill.de exports are supported #golang #privacy #opensource #ai

I will never understand why people prefer Claude Code over Codex. Codex never “made up version numbers.” And it never told me to reverse-engineer anything, instead of using the ready-to-use Docker containers.

Jack London’s The Sea-Wolf asked: What is a human being worth when power has no conscience? I ask again. What remains human when value becomes a calculation? #ai #ethics

Stuck in SFO. Lufthansa cancelled the flight after 6 hours waiting. No hotel, no water, shops are closed. Currently 25h on my feet. 7 more until I can sleep in the aircraft. Disappointing

"Nobody stops in to check on you. They check on the project. There’s also nobody standing up and saying, ‘hey, thank you for the good work you’re doing to remediate this issue.’" The harsh truth: maintainers give their spare time, yet positive feedback is rare. Appreciate who is behind the code. 💛

I never imagined GitHub would ask me to speak about #Log4Shell. But it happened. @github.com asked me to share the story as I lived it, for the benefit of users of #opensource. How could I say no? I hope it helps build a more secure future. No more Log4Shell. #java

As a fellow maintainer of an open source project, this is an intense and somewhat scary read. Thanks to @grobmeier.de for being so open to talk about what he experienced and @github.com for initiating their Secure Open Source Fund! github.blog/open-source/...

The internet was on fire. 🔥 One small library affecting billions of systems. Log4Shell was the biggest security vulnerability of all time. Now, Log4J maintainer, Christian Grobmeier tells us what it felt like inside the flames 👉 github.blog/open-source/...

I dreamed of writing a "#Java Logging" book after #Log4shell hit. Today I’m proud to share: @manning.com just launched it in MEAP. Hard to describe what that means—a circle closes. Until Oct 2: 50% off: hubs.la/Q03Jv97v0 #log4j #java #logback #slf4j

hubs.laJava Logging - Christian GrobmeierLogging is a must-know skill for Java developers. Logging is the art of making things visible—and when your codebase crashes at 5PM Friday you’ll want all the data you can get about your application!...

Today, I was awarded the title of Java Champion! It’s a huge honor, and I’m grateful for everyone I’ve met in the Java universe, especially those who taught me how to code. I’m feeling happy and a little proud. 😊 #java #programming

It feels good when something is finished, and I just finished the article for the new Javapro magazine. It's about the history of #Log4j. Proud of it. Needed a lot of chocolate. Not from #Java though, but #Japan :)

This year is the year! After log4shell hit, I started again with #Java and #OpenSource related public talks. I want to take this more seriously and plan to travel through Germany and visit JUGs or conferences. Usually, I travel at my own expense to attend community talks. Feel free to get in touch.

I grew up without books. No stories. No beautiful words. No education. At 16, I started to learn, and my now-wife, at 20, gave me her books. Today, at 46, it still hurts to look back. I am angry. My road was hard, far too hard. No one should have to walk on it.

For two long years, I studied #writing, and I practiced it too. After all this time, I might not be a better writer, but I have learned that good writers are. While #AI reflects the average of us all, good writers transcend every limit.

For my mental health, I usually refrain from commenting on politics. Today, I feel compelled to break this rule and speak out. In Germany, history revisionists yell their devoid phrases from the chancel, echoed by those who struggle with recent politics and are afraid of the future. 🧵 1/8

Like in previous years, the idea of a safe space is my promise and commitment for 2025. Loud voices may dominate the media, but be assured: countless others accept you as you are. Enough people reflect and practice acceptance and introspection—not just me. 🧵 7/8

Science and learning are the bridges that connect us; nobody needs phrases that build walls. Yelling belongs to the darkest corners of history, not our shared future. A safe space is the foundation of bridges that take us beyond rivers and seas once thought impassable. 🧵 5/8

I have seen young people grow in safe spaces beyond themselves and do things they didn't believe they could. Free from the burden of differences, they can focus on learning and growing instead of worrying about their surroundings. They learn faster, better, and with greater joy. 🧵 6/8

Still, I want to make one thing very clear: No matter where you come from, what kind of community you are part of, or what your beliefs are, you are welcome in my training and team. 🧵 3/8

The moment you enter my classroom, you are entering a safe place where everyone is accepted as they are. You may ask all your questions and learn with the rest of us as a part of us, not as a minority. Share your thoughts, and live your curiosity! 🧵 4/8

Some tech companies explicitly allow their users to call others "mentally ill" who live differently. My voice may not stop the cruel rhetoric that hurt my friends and colleagues from minority communities. 🧵 2/8

For the past weeks, I have been studying #Cicero, among others. His work resonates deeply with me. My writing changed not only because of style but also because I learned to write as a human. No #AI will ever write what a great writer can write as long as it cannot replicate the depths of humanity.

I will never understand how a Dockerfile works before I go on vacation, and it will suddenly break when I return. This is not a docker problem; I think the dependency management in Ruby and JS causes the problems.
