It's that time of year: the leaves are falling, the Halloween decorations are up -- and it's time for our annual Books in the Box episode. Join @ahl.bsky.social and me, 5p Pacific today! discord.gg/QrcKGTTPrF?e...

There's repeat customers and there's repeat customers that drive out of their way to shop at your store. We've had people drive 4 hours to buy chocolate from us. That's a huge blessing in business.

This was such a great conversation. Thank you so much Rain for coming on. We've already heard good things from listeners about this episode. See Rain's post for the link!

Really enjoyed the conversation! Talked about Git and GitHub's stacked PR workflow, updates and API versioning as a hard distributed systems problem, and property-based testing. In the extended section for subscribers we talked about the value of not outsourcing writing to LLMs among other things

Framework 13 Pro battery life is pretty great. Used it at the chocolate shop all day yesterday and then more usage when I got home. Used it a bit today and it finally hit 25%. Feels good not to worry about a charger anymore.

Hahaha exactly. My number one AI software use case is making other software more useful to me. Well, maybe that's #2... #1 is prob making AI software make itself more useful to me.

In our chocolate shop today doing a candy crawl event with the town. It's so great seeing all the kids come in for some candy and the adults stay to buy our delicious chocolate. We also have fresh hot chocolate for this cold day.

It's incredible how bad Siri powered by Apple Intelligence still is. I open ChatGPT voice on the macOS machine and ask it how to do something and it'll take a screen and tell me what to do. I could have it do it for me but then I wouldn't learn. Siri, catch up.

More and more of Anthropic's documents are LLM slop now. This is not good and shows they're unable to set boundaries

The dad in the Apple HomeView advertisement was portrayed poorly. Heck, the whole family was portrayed poorly. If I called my dad by his first name or demanded a specific breakfast when I was younger I'd be smacked upside the head. No love between mom and dad either. Yikes.

We'll try not to spend it all on DRAM. No promises though.

Today we're announcing our $445M Series D and announcing that we've reached profitability. Huge thanks to Eclipse for leading the round, which included participation from existing investors USIT, Jane Street, Riot Ventures, Intel Capital, Friends and Family Capital, and Counterpart Ventures.

Punctuation has historically been not about grammatical correctness but about the feel of how written text is meant to be read -- what lengths of pauses to use, and so on. Modern semi-formal writing tends to balance the two. LLM prose tends to overindex on the first, which makes it suck

You can see the effects of laptop thermal throttling with and without fans. The MacBook Air is fantastic until it has to do sustained workloads. The Framework 13 Pro is better since it can cool the CPU.

The 9950X3D is running Helios (Illumos) so that's why it's seemingly "worse" than the 395+ in the Framework Desktop on Linux. I'll try and get Linux on the 9950X3D to get better numbers there.

I was recording this on my iPhone Air with an active Fitness workout tracking my walk. When I hit the mile split my recording stopped and Siri told me the split time. Had to do another take. It's user experiences like this that give me pain.
