The number of connection address and protocol combinations keeps growing, and every browser behaves differently. With Happy Eyeballs v3 browsers will fall back to a working option faster and more safely. This session will show what its performance impact looks like. Max Inden at perfnow.nl

Estela, how could you? We explicitly agreed that early flights were a bad idea. So why are we standing in an airport terminal right now? Why did we only sleep 3 hours? I put my trust in you, and you just threw it away.

Airport round two, only 48 hours later 🫠 Send coffee. Note to Estela: Seriously, keep your promise this time. We are NOT doing this again!

Today I learned the hard way that evidence synthesis is about to get a whole lot harder with AI-generated fake publications. Particularly unpleasant: I learned this while hunting down a climate change impact attribution study for a systematic review.

What if we could provide websites that have the ability to do their thing while being offline? In this talk, I’ll show you how I’ve harnessed the native web APIs to implement offline capabilities while minimizing the amount of Javascript to execute in the browser. Aleth Gueguen at perfnow.nl

I was so lucky to start this project with people I admire so much... and even luckier with all who joined after. A kind of experiment still running today. A safe place where effort and talent are used to make the world a better place. I can proudly say: 25 years ago we were creating Igalia.

Igalia@igalia.com

Today Igalia turns 25. Ten engineers started it in A Coruña in 2001 with no investors and no managers. There are now close to 200 of us, and everything we build still goes upstream. igalia.com/2026/09/21/T...

Have I ever told you how incredibly tedious it is to deal with any official bureaucracy that requires my name exactly as it appears on my ID or passport? Let me tell you a story (perhaps a boring one to some, but a massive headache for me)...

And that’s the latest episode in the adventures of a Catalan navigating the digital world, one failed form validation at a time! And for my fellow front-end devs building forms: please remember that languages with special characters exist, and official forms absolutely must validate them. FIN!

Because of all the complications of having a special character in my name, I’ve simply gone by Estela for the last 30+ years. But you can probably imagine how much "fun" it is to fill out online forms that strictly require your legal name to match your passport (booking flights, for example)..

So here I am, late on a Monday night, filling out a tourist visa application for our upcoming holidays, calculating the risk of leaving out the hyphen so the form doesn’t crash on validation...

Since he was the one handling the registration, he unilaterally decided to register my name in Catalan: Estel·la. I know many of you might not even know that tiny middle dot between the Ls exists. It’s called the ela geminada (geminated L), and it’s a beautiful, uniquely Catalan linguistic quirk...

But to make the story even more thrilling, the clerk on duty that day decided to use a hyphen (-) instead of the actual middle dot (·). Why? 🤷‍♀️ But this means that, legally, my name is Estel-la. Yes, a hyphen. Even the police ask me if it’s a typo every single time I renew my ID or passport...

Once upon a time, many, many years ago, I was born. Back then, fathers barely got a couple of days of paternity leave, just enough time to rush to the registry office, file the paperwork, and not much else. My mother wanted to name me Stella (in Latin). But my father had other plans...

Allowing sports entities to dictate which parts of the internet remain functional sets a dangerous precedent. We are sacrificing the reliability of our digital economy just to protect a football broadcast!! It’s time to stop treating legitimate internet users like criminals.

You think a website is down or your Wi-Fi is bad, but the truth is that your provider is purposely blocking the connection. Small businesses lose sales and clients because their websites suddenly become unreachable.
