I dug into the methods and appendix, and hoo boy is that title "AI Article Reviews Dominate Human Peer Reviews at Their Best" deceptively broad. The overwhelming number of submissions were quantitative and statistical, only 9 were formal mathematical, and 11 were qualitative.

this feels like a kind of ”what‘s the denominator” context that should be in every outlay about alleged “overcapacity” in China

Kate Mackenzie@katemac.bsky.social

All the spare car-making capacity in the world right now is just absurd. People want to buy cars less than countries are determined to make them. h/t Liam Denning - www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Happy Global Encryption Day to all who value their privacy and security. I'll keep fighting to protect and push for adoption of strong encryption to keep us all safe.

Between "AI" and possibly LLM-fueled security hijinks, I'm not finding Internetting all that much fun these days. It was nicer when you ran your Web site with unsecured FTP and nothing more dynamic than an GIF.

Prosecutors pushing a plea deal, likely to save face. They should get a night in jail for every day they didn’t drop the charges after this fuckup became clear. State pays her costs and restitution.

Stacks of paper on the floor! Old tax information! Denizens of file cabinets! Beware! For I have finally bought a printer with an auto-feed scanner. Your days outside the recycling bin or, if you're lucky, before helping me start some charcoal are numbered.

Saddle-stitched meeting agendas! Perfect-bound brochures! For now you are safe, for a guillotine of paper is not going to fit in the home office.

This is wrong. Joel was NOT a MAGA fan he was an old school GOP person. And the fact that he’s being replaced by Dina McCormick, former Trump adviser, tells you all you need to know about where Facebook is betting.

We asserted a common law and First Amendment right to the immediate release of Jack Smith's Mar-a-Lago report. It's a good argument but we're having a *lot* of trouble getting the Eleventh Circuit to schedule argument, even though it granted an expedited appeal. I've never seen anything like this.

investigators get involved Oct 2023, so before LLM coding/agentic was rampant. How’s it going with organized crime now?

I assume this is because of that one time when the dude was flying over as I was on a wonderful long run out there and I gave Marine One the finger, mumbling apologies to the aviators just doing their job.

This design appears to completely eliminate the much-beloved loop road and public park at Hains Point, and cut down the cherry trees which line the road. The park is a public space used by tens of thousands of Washingtonians and heavily visited by tourists. /photos not my own.

A bad update: we're getting reports of pro-No Kings creators who have been suspended today as well. And we still lack backend access to the official No Kings account. Stay tuned, will report news when I have it.

Full update from our team. We STILL do not have admin access to the account.

Even if current and forthcoming "AI" does not cause horrible pestilence, the junk information and junk code as asbestos metaphor will probably be apt.

Shannon Vallor@shannonvallor.bsky.social

Fourth, the cost of getting GenAI out of the walls will disproportionately harm those with the least resources & power to do so. It was only the wealthiest countries in the world--including those that first mined and marketed asbestos insulation--that stopped using it and paid for remediation. 12/n

This should be a wake-up call for anyone who doesn't think “artificial intelligence” is also a blurry to the point of silly concept. (Proper use of an en-dash would technically solve this, but only for really irritating readers.)

Google with some dark patterns. I have maxed out storage on an old account where I've paid $29/yr for 200GB. I'd be ok with paying more, but the next they offer is 2TB at $99/yr (overkill, with AI stuff I don't need). If this were a new account I could have a better option at $49 a year. Rude

Among other things, imagine with me what this says about US stability to leaders in China, which has a much more realistic chance of such strikes and can presume is constantly vulnerable to US nuclear strike.
