In this post I want to address one category of features of File Browser that was the root of many of the security advisories that have been disclosed in the past year: command execution.

Still looking for a job. It seems like the standard nowadays is to just ghost instead of saying "no". I'd much rather have someone say "no" than ghost into the oblivion. When did we accept this? And what does this say about the companies doing it?

Did I miss some change to App Passwords? How am I supposed to manage them nowadays?

Ok. Signing in with password solves this, but it feels a bit odd. It feels like there should be another place to manage the app passwords other than via mu

Sometimes I wonder how it is to see the world from the perspective of an insect. It always feels like they are up to something.

Every year, I manage to miss the blooming heather here in Eindhoven. This time, we did go on time in August and it was quite amazing to see. The light was not the best, and neither was my effort, but I thought it'd be nice to share the photos anyways!

A small write-up on something we built a few years ago and still use!

hacdias.comOur Records Know When They're PlayedTwo years ago, we built a little something that we still use quite often: a "Playing Now" shelf for the vinyl sleeve of the currently playing vinyl. But that's not all: this shelf is NFC-enabled and records all vinyls that we play.

hacdias.comThe Test That Only Failed in the SummerIn the summer, while I was working on a feature locally, I noticed a test started failing. I initially dismissed it: I assumed there was some flakiness, and CI was green, so everything must've been good, right? Until it kept failing, only locally. A test that a few days before was working as normal.

First time experimenting with MCP servers, now I can make a photo of a cinema ticket and it'll be added to my movies log!

hacdias.comManaging My Website's Logs with MCPYesterday I added an MCP server to Eagle, my website's Go backend. Now I can manage the logs on my website much more easily: I can just snap a picture of a cinema ticket and ask Claude to add it to my website.

This also allowed me to test my new "scheduled posts" feature. Technically that was already possible, but I still needed to trigger the build manually. Now it's all done automatically!

Generated og:images with post title and maybe thumbnail. To add or not add? Most platforms already include the title, the website's name, the date, and sometimes even the summary.

And.... it's done!

hacdias.comGetting My Last Swimming DiplomaToday was the day: I got my National Swimming Diploma C, the last of the three diplomas to reach the national swimming safety norms in The Netherlands. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm very curious about what's going to come from this.

11 job applications so far. 3 rejections and the rest haven’t heard back. Only one went past submitted stage. But hey - at least the carrot cake for my last swimming lesson is in the oven!

Well, I guess it's time to find a new job 🙃 Company is sort of winding down from January... But why are all interesting things in the Randstad, and then require 3/4 days at the office. Not wasting 9-12 hours a week commuting. What happened to remote work?

First rejection came in without even a talk, sad. I should make it clear that I haven't been fired, or leaving because I decided to, since if someone looks at my resume now it looks like I've been job hopping the last two years 😅

Kubo made a maintenance release (v.0.43.1): github.com/ipfs/kubo/re... It may also be the last one. As of now, with the closure of Shipyard, it looks like the project will be orphaned and without maintainers in two weeks.

Alongside it, I announced that this was the last planned release and updated the repository so that it's ready to be archived on September 1st. For many people this came as a surprise. For those who've been following the project from close by, probably not. Either way, I wanted to write a bit about the decision and how we got to this point.

After a long time pondering, I've finally decided to archive File Browser. This has been a long time coming, and there have been multiple issues about it over the years. A possibility has always been finding a replacement maintainer, but, as that stands, it's not that easy.

I've been using Claude the past months to help me go through the - way too many - disclosures and that has helped, and I feel like it is more stable now. This was a small side project that fulfilled what I wanted it to be: a single-binary, compiled, file browser that I could start anywhere.

For some background, I wrote something a few months ago about the state of the project and it being maintenance mode only. But it can't stay like that forever. The final release and archival date is 2026-09-01. hacdias.com/2026/03/11/f...

Many people say "choose me, choose me" but they've never opened an issue on the repository. Either way: it is for the best. I started this project when I was 15 and it is riddled with bugs and security vulnerabilities.
