Maybe cryptography code should try compressing private keys and if they compress a lot reject them outright? I think that would universally catch stuff like this.

The details are now public, as of two hours ago. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi... The secret P-384 keys for these intermediate CAs are all zeros except the last 8 bits. All not-updated software can be MITM'ed now. IOT boxes that can't or don't update are now trivially MITM'able forever.

bugzilla.mozilla.org2083449 - Private key compromise of eMudhra Intermediate CertificatesNEW (nobody) in CA Program - CA Certificate Compliance. Last updated 2026-10-20.
Russ Cox@swtch.com

If you make HTTPS requests or have other TLS clients and care about MITM attacks, you need to update today. If you run Go: go get go@1.27.3 If you run Homebrew: brew update brew install ca-certificates If you run Linux, maybe stay off the internet for now.

This is the reason why I designed @peergos.org to dial by key. I wish atproto had adopted that, but I know there were reasons.

Tiles and Files! There's a new Peergos release out which includes tiles in the newsfeed. The first user of this is the calendar app to render shared calendar events. Not on Peergos yet? Tiles (sandboxed apps) in @peergos.org are normally full-screen affairs, but now they can have a tile mode which is displayed directly inline in the newsfeed. The first example of this is the calendar displaying event details directly in your feed rather than having to open the full calendar app.

We TRIPLED our vote share. Second best byelection result in Green Party history. On a date that Labour chose to deliberately clash the same week as our conference. All with a brand new PM in previously a "safe" seat. Best response to all the absolute nonsense today? Join.greenparty.org.uk

You can also define your own groups. These are private broadcast groups that let you share something with a larger group much faster. Members of the group cannot see other members or the name of the group. We've also added support to the weboffice app for the 10 languages that Peergos supports.

G'day folks! There is a new @peergos.org release out with 2 cool new features. Now you can set a space limit on any file/dir you share writable, including secret links. So we've finally removed the warning that anyone you share write capability to could fill your space! github.com/Peergos/web-...

I'm still disappointed that Jack Dorsey limited it to public conversation. Society and democracy need private conversation to survive, not more mass surveillance. We need to design our protocols to fight surveillance capitalism not enable it. Silicon valley and the VC adjacent seem blind to this.

We need to think hard when designing protocols about their emergent properties and effects on society. We are creating the future. Let's make it a good one.

Happy Friday, happy new Peergos release! Cool stuff in this release: * multi-file secret links (up to 100) * blake3 support (read-only until enough clients support it) * a beautiful new drive UI * better video thumbnails on desktop * Greek language support (about time!) github.com/Peergos/web-...

If Android had used a copyleft license AND not had a single company own all the copyright, then Google would not be able to pull the shenanigans they are now. This is why @peergos.org is copyleft licensed and contributors retain their own copyright.

Alas not very likely postmarketOS is dramatically less private/secure than either the Android Open Source Project or iOS. It greatly reduces privacy and security to below desktop levels, which is much worse, not better. It does the opposite of protecting against exploits or better sandboxing apps. 😩

This was a lot of fun. I've had this bulk/commit API planned for a few years now. It reduces the rounds trips from 4 to 1, and reduces the number of signatures by 1000x. That paves the wave for post-quantum signatures, as well as being much faster for both the client and the server.

It also lets someone delete files when they are over their space quota. Previously this wasn't possible because the delete has to first write some small blocks and those block writes were rejected as increasing the storage. Now we can calculate the size diff inside the single commit call.

The calendar has a brand new beautiful UI and now supports live sharing of events and whole calendars including with write access and in secret links. It also supports tasks which are synced over the standard caldav bridge.

GrapheneOS continues to reveal Googles active hobbling of the ability of OEMs to protect their users in favour of market exclusivity/protection, and pushing ahead with monopolistic anti competitive abuse hand in glove with GPL violations. Read below the break for the teams detailed analysis:

GrapheneOS@grapheneos.org

Android 17 QPR1 is the first release since Android Honeycomb (3.x) adding new APIs for app developers without a release to the Android Open Source Project. The new APIs are currently exclusive to the Pixel OS and aren't available to other Android OEMs. developer.android.com/sdk/api_diff...

End of an era 😥

IFPS, not IPFS@ifps.tech

Kubo made a maintenance release (v.0.43.1): github.com/ipfs/kubo/re... It may also be the last one. As of now, with the closure of Shipyard, it looks like the project will be orphaned and without maintainers in two weeks.

We've developed a secure paste feature replacing traditional clipboard APIs. Users will be able to take away clipboard access from apps to use this instead. It integrates into the standard selection toolbar, input methods, accessibility services and keyboard shortcuts. We plan to get it merged soon.

URLs should be capabilities

The dream of URLs—open, permissionless sharing—is fading. I can't paste URLs into my AIs or send them to my friends and be sure that they'll see what I see. But you know what does work? Screenshots! Screenshots are the successor to URLs. Open, permissionless sharing.

This zip work was super fun. I've wanted this for years now.

Peergos@peergos.org

There a new release out. Get it while it's hot! github.com/Peergos/web-... You can browse directly into zip files now. It downloads the zip entries lazily on demand. You can download or view individual files in the zip. You can delete, rename or upload new files or folders to the zip.

Wonderful feedback! 😍 "Beyond being a happy customer, I genuinely think Peergos is what software should look like. Decentralised, open-source, and independent from Big Tech and VC money. The architecture and philosophy behind it basically tick every box for me.

Google have properly shat the bed. I have a feeling the financial director asked AI/Gemini, what they could remove to save money that consumers wouldn't notice and that would create less issues for their corporate partners being shown up for their bad app development practices. It's answer MTE.

GrapheneOS@grapheneos.org

We have a partial port of GrapheneOS to the Pixel 11 series after a week of work on it. We're unable to complete the port due to lack of support for ARM hardware memory tagging in software, firmware and near certainly hardware. It appears Google cut an important security feature to save money.

Some may be wondering what implications, if any, this has for @peergos. Even if all ipfs work, and infrastructure stopped today we would be unaffected as a protocol. We have our own minimal implementation, and these days we basically do HTTP over (jvm)libp2p + kademlia.

It's faster, it's pretty, it has pausable sync. There is lots of great stuff in this release of @peergos.org

Initial focus for our partnership with Motorola is a regular non-folding device. Current generation Motorola Signature (2026), Razr Fold (2026) and Razr Ultra (2026) are very close to meeting our requirements but lack MTE, adequate secure element integration and other features being added for 2027.
