A niche post, but for those with an interest in the works ongoing at Hackney Central in London, this is what I said in support of @hackneycycling.org.uk who wanted a better vision for Pembury Circus to be delivered.

Apologies, it took me a little longer, but my statement is here as a pdf - nearly three years ago! cityinfinity.co.uk/wp-content/u...

Our thoughts are with Harry Webb's friends and family as the court case has, after three years, drawn to a conclusion. It's good that the sentence reflects the seriousness of drug driving. But more also needs to be done to reduce the known issues on this road, and prevent future harm from occurring.

For decades, locals have been asking for action on Kenworthy Road's well-known safety issues. We've met with TfL officials and local politicians for site visits to highlight the problems, but still there is no clear plan on the horizon.

Permanent🚦are now operational at Pembury Circus. A few of the pedestrian crossings have moved from their temporary alignments. They were still removing some of the temporary traffic management when I was passing. @raynoldchow.bsky.social @edmondchuihw.bsky.social

We're also holding a breakfast event this Saturday from 10-12 in Clissold Park. It's sort of a spin-off from the one we always do in London Fields! Would be lovely if you came along for a free bite to eat / drink and a chat!

Kidical Mass - Autumn 2026! Sun 20th Sept -11am🚴‍♀️ 🤩 But what is happening in the City for the Festival?! So much...👏 - Range of accessible cycles from @wheelsforwellbeing including hand cycles and trikes, which can be taken on a short ride. - Wheels for Wellbeing led ride from Herne Hill

There may be a 20km round-the-borough ride also, intended for more experienced / confident riders, but we're not sure if we have the marshal numbers to run that yet. So particularly if that sounds up your street, get in touch.

- Upcoming Events: - Cyclists' Breakfast "Lite" 19 September - Kidical Mass 20 September - History ride 20 September - London Cycling Festival loop ride 20 September - AGM 7th October - New treasurer needed! - Queensbridge Road cycle tracks - Update on C50

Does anyone who's kids already cycle to school, and possibly had to jump through similar hoops, have thoughts on this?

@hackneycycling.org.uk Hello LCC Hackney! My kid starts soon at Mossbourne Victoria Park and I just realise that they block any kid from cycling to school unless they have a Bikeability Lvl3!! Any thoughts?

Meeting this Wednesday at 7:30-9pm, IRL at the Pembury Community Centre! Current agenda: - Budget for 2026-27 - Recap of last council liaison meeting - Summer events: - Bike breakfast in London Fields (date TBD) - Feeder to Women's Freedom Ride on July 5th Would be great to see you there!

If you have not responded yet, please do it now!! The consultation aims to draw out people's experience of using Bank junction - information which cannot be simply derived from traffic movement surveys. Your views and number of responses have an effect! Just one week to go! bank-taxi.commonplace.is

Worth supporting. Even if you never step foot in Tower Hamlets, if you like the idea of TfL not pointlessly burning money, this should be of interest! The precedent set by the previous decision is when TfL agrees a plan with a borough, and funds that plan, councils can't just bulldoze it all later.

The Supreme Court has granted Tower Hamlets Council permission to appeal the ruling that removing Bethnal Green's LTNs was unlawful. We are disappointed, but undeterred. We won at the Court of Appeal and we'll fight this too, but we need your support. www.crowdjustice.com/case/defendi...

We've updated the hustings page on our website with details of which of our asks the candidates supported (and also, if available, their responses to the asks):

Good evening Bluesky! Welcome to the live thread of the Hackney 2026 Mayoral Active Travel hustings. A full house here at the Pembury Community centre. We are joined by the 🟥🟩🟦 parties

She also says speed is happening, talks about Chatsworth Road, Hoxton and Pembury all being delivered. Zoe says she would want to see why the council is moving so slowly. Tareke (Conservative) says he would prioritise high quality cycle lanes.

Last question: Is Hackney doing enough to communicate the scale of change required to the community? Zoe: no. We are dominated by #BigCar Caroline: Talks about Walking and Cycling conference. Says lots of good sharing there. Also talked about a wonderful #bikebus experience.

Q: Pembury was delivered despite being said not to be safe for children to cycle through by Hackneys cycle instructors. What will the Mayor do to ensure higher quality and also speed them up? Caroline says the Pembury scheme was pedestrian prioritised (and is safer for cycling)

Would you be happy letting your child cycle across the new Pembury junction. Woodley says she would be happier now than before. She also says she thinks routes that don't go via Pembury are preferable. Zoe says she was shocked that Hackney Labour supported this scheme.

A great question: how will a Mayoral candidate from one party work if the ruling party is made up of another. Hackney could well see a Labour Mayor and Green Council or vice-versa. Answers are all good but essentially this could get tricky.

Question time: A member of the Dalston LTN support group asks what the Mayor will do to ensure local support is not ignored for road danger reduction scheme? Lots of good answers. Zoe says she wants to work with communities and ensure communication is better..

We're holding a hustings event next Thursday (16th April) jointly with Living Streets and @lowtraffichackney.bsky.social. This will be an exellent opportunity to hear each candidate's vision for active travel in Hackney, and to ask them questions on walking, cycling and wheeling.
