Brilliant, beautifully illustrated and detailed account of last night’s transformation of Oxford St to a space for people on foot. On my way there now to see how it’s working out in practice. Do read Jim’s piece. 👇

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.

I know getting data right on day one is tricky, but perhaps Google and even TfL could have updated their apps to divert cycle directions away from Oxford Street. Admittedly both now have to recommend cycling on streets that haven’t had their planned Cycleways delivered. Central London Grid anyone?

🚲🚶‍♂️ Our CEO Tom Fyans down at the new pedestrianised Oxford Street this morning... 👍 We're all in favour of this move, but where are our safe alternate cycle routes?! 👨‍💻 Send an email to Westminster Council to ask them to start work on new safe cycle routes near Oxford Street: buff.ly/Fhm8R18

Spot on. Exhausting.

It’s the most tiring thing about #ActiveTravel campaigning - having to disprove the same #BadFaith arguments over and over again, with news organisations creating controversy in the name of clicks, and then when they’re in most people (bar a vocal minority) are in favour.

So - no person driving the vehicle then? According to reports.

Large, heavy, powerful cars are capable of creating death & destruction if driven badly or recklessly but we’re forced to share the streets with them. Time for some restrictions as protection from other people’s bad choices. www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/2666095...

@lccwomensnetwork.bsky.social has produced two reports which are well worth reading to understand why women want Freedom to Ride lcc.org.uk/campaigns/fr...

lcc.org.ukWomen's FreedomLess than one third of cycle trips in London are taken by women - we want to close the gap and unlock cycling for women.
Oxford Clarion@oxfordclarion.bsky.social

Organisers Cyclox say: "Across the UK, women make half as many trips by bike as men and are more likely to be put off cycling by fears of busy traffic or harassment. This isn’t just about transport - it’s about equality, opportunity and giving more people the freedom to ride."

So looking forward to this !

In an ideal world, everyone would follow the rules. But with limited resources, police rightly focus on major causes of harm; last year, 364 pedestrians were killed, almost all of them hit by motor vehicles. In comparison, more pedestrians are killed by cows than cyclists.

And yet here we are in Islington rowing back on promises to put LTNs in the whole Borough. What a shameful lack of ambition in the face of all the evidence. I would tag LBI but they aren't here, preferring The Other Place. Says it all.
