I hope Blizzard nails Forever, particularly with the story. I hope it means they'll feel less pressure to make huge changes and to shape things slowly and more organically. A way to start over that feels earned.

There's the SpongeBob quote of, "Look around you. Our customers are quite content with the contrived and the mediocre." And there are things from old WoW that I definitely haven't missed. But with union-led, people-focused, gradual change, I think Forever can succeed.

There was also the extremely popular fan-run WoW Classic that was eventually shut down and then co-opted by Blizzard. It's been popular. Seasons of Discovery felt like a step in the right direction; taking old content and just tweaking it a little.

I could care less about WoW's current story, but Forever intrigues me because it feels like the next step from Seasons of Discovery. Old, familiar, but with better QoL and tweaks to the world and story that feel fine. They've had a long time to think on it.

Mists split fans for several reasons, but it signaled the collapse of the overall narrative. Things felt very rushed. Since then, I think Blizzard has been trying to balance old and new while lurching from twist to shocking twist. Sometimes it feels like cheap soap opera drama.

We've revisited old storylines, particularly the Alliance-Horde conflict, that have felt unnecessary or unearned. In trying to recapture the old spirit, Blizzard never quite hit the mark. Things got weird. I think they've been doing too much at once.

Forever is a full circle return following a major course correction for Blizzard that, to me, began after Cataclysm. While most expansions added new locales, Cata replaced and reshaped the old world. Favorite characters grew and changed.

Wrath of the Lich King remains the greatest WoW expansion due to the epic conclusion to Warcraft's most compelling storyline. After that, Blizzard started pushing new major characters and phasing out older ones. It felt forced. Less organic and more change for change's sake.

Funny to see what industries are like yeah an LLM can do my job. Every creative field is like “fuck you this sucks” and Lawyers are like “yeah for the boring shit but don’t tell anyone” and half of coders are like “I’m shit, I’m a worm, please fucking kill me” and the other half are really annoyed.

Bill Simmons is the peak of "most annoying guy you know just made a great point." He is the insufferable intersection of nerd and bro. But he knows basketball, otherwise I'd never listen. I want less ads, less gambling and more basketball. Someone recommend me new pods!

The latest Simmons pod takes the cake for ad reads. Three minutes of ads before the pod, followed by a 20-MINUTE sponsored segment, followed by MORE ads, and then finally an interview. Bill is excellent at two things: talent evaluation and being an unrepentant shill. I hate it.

Getting through any Bill Simmons pod is a chore. He's smug, his voice is nasally and sounds like he has a permanent head cold, and he's a degenerate sports gambler. You could invent a drinking game for every Celtics reference he shoehorns into any discussion, but you'd be dead before the first hour.

BioWare made Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Dragon Age...if there was ever a studio that should have had been easy to support and back, it was BioWare. Private equity continues to be the greatest scourge put upon creativity and art.

Other DS9 thoughts: why are men constantly looking for masculine role models and cannot find any. Sisko is right there

I’ve just met Q in DS9 and I said to my wife “this is like if the Annoying Orange were a rapist”

OKC's defense shutting down San Antonio so far. Even Chet has had moments battling Wemby. Spurs can go hot and cold so not too surprising, but they have to keep attacking the rim. I don't want Wemby taking any 3s unless he's wide open.

Maybe it's me but I get the feeling Jaylen Brown is fighting himself out there. Moves like he wants to take over and is like, oh yeah, I need to pass. Sixers need to find a way to really activate him.

Champion Knicks still looking coordinated, if rusty. Sixers looking uncoordinated, but it's a long season. Just looking for indicators tonight. I'll pay more attention to how Philly jells after the All-Star Break.

I was a newspaper reporter for only 6 months. It's only since being in PR (incidentally, staffed by many ex-journos) that I've come to crave those two magical words -- "good job" -- from my editor. I am sustained by that rare praise like a starving man receiving scraps.

Huge mood. I don't feel I can get many eyeballs with just type. People want sights and sounds, which I really would like to never do.

i simply want to be perceived via my words but this whacky world wants a face

I love when it finally gets cold, but my cat craves warmth. His favorite activity is when the windows are open so he can see and smell the outside, but when it's cold he's clearly conflicted.
