New #BritishLibrary #TalesoftheWeird. #James_Doig's 'Terror Australis: Dark Tales from Down Under.' 12 stories of, primarily, bush weirdness and outback gothic, from 19th century to present day. TOC on Vault 🖤https://vaultofevil.proboards.com/thread/9154/james-doig-ed-terror-australis

Benchread on the go. Susan Clegg, The Dead of Winter: The Demons Witches & Ghosts of Christmas (Granta 2025) , inc. chapters on Marshfield Mummers Play, Salzberg Krampus run & Horse Skulls & Hoodenings. Deliciously odd, macabre and beautifully written. May include fun. 🖤

This is pretty ace. Hugh Morrison [ed] 'Victorian Murder: True Crimes, Confessions & Executions' (Montpelier Publishing, 2016) A collection of facsimiles of lurid 19th century crime reports/ 'Catchpennies'

#HarrowWeald revisit today. #The_Case_is_Altered 🖤 really is a ghost pub now; kind of sad having the run of the beer garden, no-one to share it with. But for the occasional passing car, place is eerily quiet bearing in mind it's on top of a wood .... #soulthing

A month to go! VINTAGE PAPERBACK & PULP BOOK FAIR CRIME, HORROR, SCIENCE FICTION, TV & FILM, WESTERN, ADVENTURE, VINTAGE PENGUINS, COMICS & MORE! HOLIDAY INN BLOOMSBURY CORAM STREET, LONDON WC1N 1HT SUNDAY NOV 8TH OPEN 9.30—3PM ADMISSION £4

Return to Harrow Weald/ Grims Dyke/ St. Mary's Harrow, Case is Altered, 'Greymarshe' etc set for tomorrow. Well looking forward to communing with my ghosts/ checking if haunted bench has returned (doubtful). #benchland

1/2 Inc. On the trail of the Borley nun; the gaiety girl, ex-lion tamer, & a haunted dressing room at Camberwell Palace theatre; are ghost-hunters sane? Poltergeist activity in Newark St., Whitechapel: celeb medium Ena Twigg investigates 'evil' oil painting purchased from Fulham junk shop;

....the faceless phantom of Langmead St, W. Norwood; the clash of ego's & rash committee appointments that, in Mr. Paul's opinion, soured 1953's resuscitation of the Ghost Club revival. Concludes w/ author's take on the Amityville horror, (he's far from convinced by the Lutz's version of events).

Bookaholism showing zero sign of letting up. Some new/current/recent reads. Not yet made a start on Nightmare Abbey (thanks to all who dwell in the House of Magnus!) or Scary Stories. Hooked on ... is fun if a bit patchy, and Ghosts excellent.

Picked up a box of approx 500 postcards from Sclater Street market this morning. Here's a sample. Particularly fond of the Sphinx and the vintage beauty. Also the story of the white heather. Brigg church gives me minor St Mary's vibes,

Another ace one; Steve Duffy's '. If wasn't that taken with his 'X for Jennifer ann' in #6, 'Ca Grandit' more than makes up for it; Set in the South of France, a black magician manipulates her teen nephews into providing the coven with a Moonchild.

The EU now has laws that require all AI content and bot agents to be labelled as such Brexit means UK citizens won’t have these protections The UK should align with the EU on this and all policy that reigns in digital abuse and disinformation. #StrongerTogether

"Nearing the trees, I passed a flapper in white Victorian bridal dress sat on a stone bench, a parasol twirling idly in a white lace gloved hand. A few yards on, I couldn't help but turn my head to sneak a last glimpse of her .. but the seat was empty, the girl nowhere to be seen." #ghost_girl #true

Have neglected actual haunted bench content recently, so here is a shot of the corner of Weald Lane where until recently rested the AWOL bench. Note this was before the pond was drained and cemented over so long before a bench was placed there. #HauntedHarrowWeald For caption, see photo alt text.

Arrived today. Vol 1 still my pick of the set as I love the often spectacularly terrible Baird/ early Farnsworth Wright issues above the 30s high watermark, but this still ace. Could have done without #HPLovecraft and the poetry, but that's just me. #Stephen_Jones #Weird_Tales

Six stories into Mike Ashley [ed]'s 'Danse Macabre: Strange Stories from France' and loving it. Highlights to date include 'The Serpent Flower,' 'Vera,' 'Omphale,' and 'Dead Man's Hollow.' Maybe my favourite Ashley #TalesoftheWeird since 'Weird Sisters.'

Did you hear that Essex's Reform council have banned libraries from "promoting" LGBTQ+ events and materials? It's outrageous - have we gone backwards a generation?! Sign the petition now to make them scrap this hateful decision! you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/li...

Got these in Comics, Posters, DVDs in Queens Rd, #Westbourne, on recent Bournemouth lightening visit. The shop is insane. You have to climb over books to get to stacks of books, DVDs, posters, dead customers etc, which bury you soon as you remove one.🖤 PS. Owner Gerry has new rescue dog named Finn.

Picked up a copy of this for £1 at (what's left of) Sclater Street market #BethnalGreen yesterday. #Jan_Bondeson's fascinating account of a case of celebrity stalking from 1838, plus similar episodes through to the present day (including Michael Fagan's 1982 visit on Elizabeth II. #Save_Brick_Lane

Thank you, #CoachwhipPublications, for bringing this back into print. Frank King's 1929 novel 'The Ghoul,' basis for the 1933 movie of same name and seminal 1961 horror comedy "What A Carve Up!' feat Sid James, Kenneth Connor, Shirley Eaton, etc.

#Benchland update. Finally made it back to #StMarys #Harrow_on_the_Hill only for the church to be shut for filming. On to #WealdLane #HarrowWeald. #HauntedBench remains AWOL - have no idea what became of it. Beermat via #TheCosyBar at number 6 Weald Lane.
