Stressed with a lot of looming deadlines next week, so I decided to get groceries delivered. What I thought I ordered:"6 bananas". What I actually ordered: "6 bunches of bananas" 🫠🫠😐😐🫠🫠

My first grad student passed her prospectus with flying colors!! I'm so proud!!! Through the chaos, it's so nice to be able to celebrate the wins!! 🎊🎊🥂🥂👏🏾👏🏾

Do brain circuits really sit in a 'soup' of neuromodulators? Are neurons like soggy bits of bread soaked in signaling factors? Is the whole brain just squelching around in one big pool of warm modulators?

After a great day of doorknocking in Pennington, relaxing at Needle Creek Brewery over a glass of stout! The goat ran away, might not be a registered voter ;-) Great, engaged citizens. They’re concerned about health, AI, and democracy. Next weekend in #NJ12 come join our canvass! SamForNJ.org

Princeton-area friends, come to a meet-and-greet this Sunday morning, outside Tiger Noodles! Get your coffee next door at the "small" Small World, then say hi! We'll talk about how to harness democracy to save science! #autism #research samfornj.org

Such a fun visit! Thank you so much for the invite and what a fantastic scientific community!

Thank you @heatherdsnell.bsky.social for visiting Houston and sharing the amazing work in your lab. Cheers to my colleague Jessica Butts (Rice) for hosting you.

What do Louie Lunchmeat, Jesse Owens, and Jesus Christ have in common? They are "signatures" on Sue Altman's ballot petitions. We found these and hundreds of fakes, using science and AI. Legislation requires attention to detail. NJ-12 needs someone who sweats the details. I'm SamForNJ.org

🎉 lab’s first data paper 🎉 TL;DR: we found profound changes in vocal calls produced by mice with early-onset dystonia caused by cerebellar dysfunction. Thus, vocal impairments in people with dystonia may, in part, be driven by cerebellar dysfunction. www.frontierspartnerships.org/journals/dys...

Seeing my trainees’ names pop up in google scholar alert gave me feels I wasn’t ready for. Bluetorial forthcoming when the proofed manuscript is online.

🧠 Resting-state fMRI is often treated as the gold standard for studying the brain’s intrinsic organization. But is it actually the best way to estimate functional architecture? We tested this directly. 🧵1/8

Had a lot of fun teaching the first year students about the cerebellum today! Opened with the Powerpuff girls, how the mayor was absolutely useless and horrible at his job, but his assistant was essential, ran everything, and kept the town afloat. Her name was Ms. Sara Bellum. Got audible gasps!

Baked celebration cupcakes! My grad student received the National Ataxia Foundation Pre-Doctoral Fellowship and I received the National Ataxia Foundation Early Career Investigator Award!! I had lots of rejections last year so nice to start 2026 with some wins. All gluten free!

The Leading Edge community has been a life-line as I navigate *points to everything*. Zara was such a shining light of wisdom and warmth. She will be sorely missed, but her legacy will continue in everyone who had the utmost privilege to interact with her. Apply, apply, apply!!!!

Leading Edge Fellows Program@leadingedgeprogram.bsky.social

The Leading Edge Fellows gathered this week to celebrate Zara Weinberg, a beloved member of our community. Our 7th cohort of Leading Edge Fellows (2026) will be named in her honor. The Zara Weinberg Leading Edge Cohort application is now open! Due Feb 2. www.leadingedgesymposium.org/apply/

Ugh the fact that second year grad student can no longer apply to the nsf-gfrp is so devastating to my students. They purposely didn't apply last year. They could have announced that they would enforce the change next year to allow for some heads up and buffer. Just ridiculous.
