Russia is preparing a theatrical drama in Oleshky where russia will be cast the role of the hero, Ukraine the part of the villain and melania some kind of fairy godmother I guess. Good luck trying to attract an audience with that pitch..

Anton Gerashchenko@antongerashchenko.bsky.social

Zarina Zabrisky: Behind me, you can see Oleshky: the town no one wanted to hear about nine months ago. Now, the world knows but the ordeal is not over. The next week ceasefire will be used for a “press tour” to whitewash Russia's war crimes. Don't fall for Russian propaganda.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

i really do think that a successful impeachment and removal of hegseth is a live possibility if dems win the senate. he is a genuine disaster.

Laleh Khalili@lalehkhalili.bsky.social

Man, Hegseth's Department of War is even more buffoonish than everything else. Kinda amazed how the US military didn't just have some basic war plans they could activate. Their lack of preparedness is astonishing. meidasnews.com/news/so-much...

An 87yo in WI charged 17,766 times for $77k. An 89yo in D.C. charged 26,456 times for $429k. A 76yo in CA charged 27,236 times for $578k. There are thousands of examples like these. Republicans are even worse. We shouldn't have to protect our elderly parents from this.

I don't understand what is going on in the heads of the folks making endless streams of articles like this. "All our metrics show a healthy economy, but why is everyone so mad?" The metrics being used are obviously shit.

So instead of face the fact that everything is seemingly between 2 and 4 times more expensive, and wages haven't meaningfully moved, they're just going to pathologize it.

We have to think about collapsing Trump poll numbers and Rs turning on him the same way we'd think about finally being able to corner a rabid raccoon in your garage. Good news: he's out of options. Bad news: he's a rabid raccoon.

crazy that carville has been dining out for 30 years on attaching himself to one of the great political savants

The Tennessee Holler @thetnholler.bsky.social

🤔 James Carville: “I’d rather Republicans keep the house by 5 than Dems win by 5… Because then they’re hostage to DSA, and Hakeem can’t move.” 😬Bill Kristol: “Good point.” So afraid of DSA folks who want M4ALL, etc. they’d rather Republicans hold power. Unreal. True colors.

In this vein I find it helpful to remember Elizabeth Anderson's argument that the point of education is not to reward merit, but to create it.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

the other thing is that conservatives resolutely do not see the purpose of education as providing social mobility but as reifying and deepening existing inequalities of status. they are as hostile to low income students getting admission to elite institutions as they are black ones.

ultimately it's shit like this that makes the decline of birth rates and resulting demographic skewing towards old people self-reinforcing. Greedy, wealthy retired people voting to destroy the funding for public services they relied on throughout their life now that they no longer need them

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Incidentally, anyone still voting GOP in 2026 is someone I will never trust again about anything.

I've been consuming a lot of news trying to understand the scope of Trump's most recent betrayal of Ukraine. It's very strange to me that none of what I've read or watched mentions Trumps first impeachment, and his tendency towards seeking revenge.
