I know everyone gushing over Phantom Blade Zero, but this here is my most wanted of the week.

Queen's Domain⚔️ - DEMO OUT NOW@queensdomain.bsky.social

Happy to announce that Queen’s Domain is Steam Deck and Machine VERIFIED ✅ Soon players can enjoy our retro-fantasy action RPG either in the palm of their hands or via a cube! ⚔️ Launching October 30th!!

I've been following this one since it was a Doom mod using kit-bashed sprites from Blood. It has had a wild, bumpy time in development (including one of the lead devs passing away), but from what I've played, it somehow still stuck the landing. A horror FPS RPG that feels equally empowering and not

It bears repeating that STALKER 2 is the game now that it should have been at launch. No shade on the devs either, they were (and still are) working in an active warzone. The v2.0 overhaul got it 95% of the way there. This update hammers out the last major gripe most had. From here, it's all good.

They're also rolling out the mod tools one chunk at a time. Recently they released the quest editing stuff for the game, and the next major piece of the toolkit is going to be the full world authoring tools. I expect that'll come around the launch of the second expansion. Then it'll just EXPLODE.

I'm genuinely shocked that this game is free. It's polished, beefy, seems well designed, and the demo did relatively well on Steam. Sign of the times? Overwhelming competition? Either way, grab it. It's kinda like Darkest Dungeon/Griftlands with Borderlands' setting and sense of humor.

Huge reccomendation for this, even in early access. It's like a slicker, faster low-fi STALKER with a fun setting where mankind has largely been usurped by lizard people and fae magic is returning to the world on top of all the super-science reality-warping weirdnes.

If they manage to cram in every feature that the store page promises, this free community-made remaster could be better than 90% of official, professional attempts. Fingers crossed for both this project and Arkane. They're going through it right now.

Huh... The PR agency that yelled at me once for not delivering a full review within a week is now trying a new approach. 'We've got four games here that you can preview, and we'll give you a key for ONLY ONE of them'. I'm not sure who making the press jump through arbitrary hoops helps.

A surprising number of people who loved Betrayal At Club Low still haven't played the sequel. More weird dice, more pizza, more Off-Peak City. Lots more. Even before Chapter 3, the first couple segments were several times the length of Betrayal.

One of the last major issues with STALKER 2 is hammered out, and they've added a fan-favourite feature (from many a mod) - fast-travel via paying wandering NPC squad leaders to escort you. And there's still another expansion and online multiplayer coming in 2027. A huge game that keeps on growing.

This has been teased and talked about for quite some time. Being done with Ubisoft and Arkane's full blessings. Huge community collaboration project. Not sure if this version will include the new levels from the Xbox release, but if not, mods should be able to add those.

This week is just a firehose of great games. I've played a couple other releases early and it's just great stuff all round. Plus some older stuff getting a resurgence. Look Outside going multiplatform with another slab of new content.

Phantom Blade Zero is an unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger. Our review: https://bit.ly/47BMCKU

It's been so surprising seeing this King's Field revival. Lunacid + Tears of The Moon, Devil Spire, Verho, Labyrinth of the Demon King, Dread Delusion, etc. And Queens's Domain, Hark The Ghoul, Crimson Rest, Necrofane and Decrepit on the horizon. A bunch more besides that, but still, SO many now!

Once again I'm telling people to play Corru.Observer - one of the coolest things ever made to be played in a browser. It is a sprawling, genre-hopping sci-fi mystery with multiple albums of soundtrack now. Excellently written, both in terms of loveable characters and speculative hard sci-fi stuff.

Oh, wow, just tried the demo for Echoes Of Nothing. It's a hard sci-fi fusion of Descent and Souls-like, but that's still pretty reductive. This plays like nothing else. You start out as a small space pod, salvaging parts from wrecks and transferring into intact chassis, working up the food chain.

My impression from the demo is that it's kinda half-complete, mechanically? I played for like half an hour and it barely pushed back at all, and I had money enough to buy like 50 health (I never lost any beyond hitting the 'sacrifice blood to skip fight' button), so it feels more proof-of-concept'y.

But still, such good vibes I didn't mind noodling around aimlessly in it like that. If the full game is a bit more coherent and structured and can deliver more of *all this*, I want in.

The developer (Jacob Jazz, maker of many other weird experimental games) has promised sliders to control the filter in the full game. Core mechanic is that you summon blocks in the bottom-left, then slingshot them into the top right to match colors and clear them. The screen wraps horizontally.

Repeating for anyone who missed it: While it was AI hell for the first two days, the Next Fest main page is now ranked by both public playtime and personal recommendations. I already follow WAY too many indie games, but just by scrolling down, I found another 50 cool ones I'd never heard of before!

Dominic Tarason@dominictarason.com

Okay, now the Next Fest page is set to Personalized by default, it's giving me some REAL sicko stuff (positive, laudatory even), like... RUIN: 35th ANNIVERSARY DEFINITIVE EDITION A remaster of a game that never existed.

For all the claims from AI marketing people and their sycophants that it's the Next Big Thing and Everyone's Doing It, if you look at the most-played rankings on demos? Almost all AI stuff sank to the bottom. Nobody wants to touch it even for free. There's the occasional exception but that's rare.

The world's richest, most powerful, dumbest people are paying astronomical sums of money to try to convince people that AI is great, and stuff made with AI is great. And despite all that, they literally can't get people even playing free demos. If anything, people are only rejecting it harder now.

Well, that wasn't on my 2026 bingo card. I'll take it, though.

Hopefully it won't take too long after the new official update drops for the mod to be updated to plug into it. Such is the danger of modding anything Frankie's working on.

One of the really wild additions to this mod is that on Cursed mode, every (or nearly every) party member can become a boss fight in the finale. Some gnarly sprites for them, too.
