Does your city have free bathrooms everywhere? In Texas you can walk into any fast food joint, gas station, or grocery store and nobody will care. Inner-city Houston probably has fewer places to lounge. Seattle is not like this, though. You feel like you aren't wanted anywhere.

Another little neighborhood walk for y'all. Getting down to the final stretch and, clearly, I'm prioritizing my time well. #screenshotsaturday #proceduralgeneration

Does anyone have a problem writing blogs? I privately write essays where I cover a topic I like or a thing that I did but I never publish them because it all sounds too straightforward and obvious. None of my friends would need to read it because we already know everything about each other lol

I got to ep 3 of CP edge runners s2. Fantastic art and design. The personalities are hard to like though. Someone really needs to combine studio Trigger with good storytelling. Maybe I'm picky, but Common Side Effects did way more with the same run time. Making peak is very very possible!!

Why is everyone trying to make a Photoshop alternative? I hardly know anyone using Photoshop lol. Some of the best digital painters I know will use literally anything as long the UI and shortcuts are good.

Give me a Minecraft terrain mod that's more noisy and has more small cliffs, plateaus, and ledges. If you need to screenshot your terrain mod from 1000 blocks in the air, then your terrain is too large and it'll feel flat during gameplay. <-- good BAD -->

What Linux distro is best for running apps like a normie? AppImage is the ideal format but the GNOME explorer won't let you open it like an EXE until you use chmod +x. There should be a prompt like "Hey, is it okay to run this?" Flatpak sounds good too. Maybe a distro with that pre-installed?

My desktop suddenly turned solid black and I can't see anything. Returning to the lock screen showed something for 1 second and now it's stuck as black again. I can hear the volume controls working, it's just the display that's broken. Now I have to reboot my PC again and lose all my work.

It happened AGAIN! Both times while alt-tabbing and(?) while I had Helium browser open. Why Helium browser? Because the Chrome Flatpak can't run WebGL. Why Chrome? Because Firefox gives broken stack traces for wasm apps. I'm done with Linux for now. It's been fun y'all.

Now I'm playing the package game: apt install fuse? fuse2fs? Nope. Ohhh it's "libfuse2". How come other AppImages didn't need FUSE? Maybe I was on a distro with FUSE pre-installed a while back. I'm starting to understand a fundamental problem with app distribution on Linux now.

Theoretically I could publish an executable that installs itself and its icon to your start menu. It seems app listings are kept here. Does everyone else have this directory? Also, VSCode isn't present here, so the icon is installed some *other* way. So how did vscode.deb install its icon???

Do NOT let Linux go into sleep mode because when you wake it the screen might be stuck looking blank and you'll be forced to reboot it, killing whatever you had open. This is default btw.

Okay so AppImage doesn't always work. GearLever is really nice and gives the apps a nice icon and puts them in my apps menu but it I couldn't figure out the error. I had to re-dowload the AppImage (GearLever deleted/moved the original file) and play the terminal game to see what's up.

Got Kubuntu working. Installing Nvidia drivers was a breeze. I just ran "sudo ubuntu-drivers install" and restarted. Installing .deb files is easier than I remember, although the installer makes you wait for it to load some package info before you can click install. Kinda annoying.

Nightmare-level difficulty: Distribute Windows binaries from Linux. If I cross-compile from Linux with GCC or whatever then it won't statically link some runtime garbage and 80% of Windows users can't run it without installing some extra garbage (VC++ redist files)

I went to install Kubuntu, because hopefully Ubuntu will give me the GPU drivers I need to run KDE Plasma. I clicked "install" and it turned gray. Lang picker doesn't work. I can still select a network. It's doing nothing right now. KDE distros are on a losing streak. Can't even install it.

More notes: Fedora messed up my Windows install, says it's in "hibernate" and can't be written to. No boot option for Windows anywhere. Not sure how to repair it. Ubuntu has always been good with dual-boot installations and laptops. Seems like that still holds up.

Fedora Gnome is still a bit laggy. Small menus have crazy lag when scrolling and the cursor can't keep up. It's just like my overheated laptop running on battery saver mode. I can't remember if my Ubuntu install was better than this. Do I switch distros *again*?

So it's not using my GPU as I suspected and nothing really seems to fix it. I don't think it's possible with a card as old as mine. For giggles, I had an AI try to fix it and it bricked the install. Let's see how Ubuntu fares again.

A reminder that Flatpak and AppImage don't solve everything -_-' The .rpm from VSCode's official website worked flawlessly though! It opens and runs it like a good 'ol fashioned installer. Software should be downloaded directly through a dev's site this way and come with its own update mechanism

Notes: Fedora + KDE = laggy. Frequent random stutters which lag the mouse too. I followed some Google AI summary to install Nvidia drivers but that didn't help. My GPU is old but Ubuntu+Gnome had no problem with it. Also I keep getting crash report popups from Discord. I'll try Fedora + Gnome

Alright! Fedora is the consensus. I've heard nothing but good things about it (and Bazzite) this past year. My opinions on Linux desktops are a little dated but this is the ultimate test. I may finally publish a Linux app at some point.

Nobody ACTUALLY uses a terminal editor to write code, right? If it's any larger than a simple script then you really REALLY need find-by-reference and other language-aware features.

I have a bad habit of asking questions I partially know the solutions to and then fist fighting people in the comments. In fairness to me, it's really not obvious how to achieve a decent IDE experience. There are so many 3rd party options that extend Neovim. Nothing is good enough out of the box.

It doesn't help that I have to hop distros or reinstall Linux all the time. Everything keeps changing underneath me. Normally I am a freak for hotkeys but it's random between each software specially in Linux.

Drawpile is ridiculous.

Hold on!@holdon.templeoftherat.com

Drawpile is kinda good now. The brushes still suck and undo/redo is still EXTREMELY BROKEN in singleplayer, but now it's got a magic wand tool and great lasso support. Seriously though, they need to fix the broken sensitivity, weird size units, and undo/redo. Custom pressure curves don't fix it
