There’s a fine line between righteous anger over the war in Gaza and seeming obsessive/extreme. Big difference speaking to voters in Holborn and St Pancras compared with Gorton and Denton was how many felt the Greens had moved into the second category

Ft. this chart which suggests that the ceiling for Conservative support currently looks a lot higher than that for Reform...

Ridiculous behaviour from the Tories. Dealing with unfriendly journalists is a basic requirement for a political party!

I've been a member of the lobby for well over a decade. Not a single one of my lobby colleagues has said a word about the Conservatives banning me from their conferences, without any explanation. Contrast with the US where even Fox News stood in solidarity when Trump banned news outlets he disliked

Greens slip into fifth place in our poll tracker, while Reform are only two points off third place. Two parties that dominated discourse in 2025 on their way down

More Britons are failing to comply what used to be seen as civic obligations. Disparate, sometimes important and sometimes trivial, overlay them and it seems like something has slipped in the relationship with the state

one for the "Rachel Reeves was an orthodox social democrat" file, raising taxes to fund the NHS and doing more borrowing to juice investment spending

Ruth Curtice@ruthcurtice.bsky.social

Finally, tax and spend. One of Reeves’ biggest decisions was to tax more to pay for the NHS. The Chancellor has raised nearly £70bn in tax and spent 70% of it on higher day-to-day departmental spending. £9 in every £10 of the new money in her spending review went to the NHS.

Seen from abroad it's hard to make sense of what happened to Starmer. Big majority, centrist, fairly united party, no obvious blunders -- and somehow it went off the rail in just a few years. Political scientists will have their work cut out on this one.
