Meanwhile, the big banks are comfortably hoarding a 2.90% Net Interest Margin and a 14.1% Return on Equity. The system is working exactly as programmed: it treats corporate profits as sacred and household survival as a minor, boring technicality.

This is pure Capitalist Realism. The spreadsheet has vetoed the ballot box. The deep tragedy isn't just that the public is losing the economic battle—it's that the system has successfully removed the language required to realize a war is even being fought

The right-wing press has spent weeks dragging the Overton window so far to the right that standard public investment is treated like dangerous communism. They use words like "lefty" as a smear to scare a center-left government into ordering its own austerity.

Look at the actual receipts. UK 10-year Gilt yields dipped slightly today to 5.35% because the Treasury leaked that its new funding package won't actually start spending real cash until 2028. The markets are literally rewarding the state for kicking the can down the road.

They have faced declining funding for the last couple of years alongside cost reduction targets and threats of take overs and other harsh external oversight. This has been accompanied by the whole ‘mental illness is over-diagnosed’ rhetoric.

I’m also aware of the current debate on the effects of lockdown during COVID. So there is a story here of misguided Government policy impacting on a sector already experiencing chronic underfunding (compared with other parts of the NHS) and the is what ELFT and others are responding to.

Online sleuths have exposed Reform UK’s latest PR stunt. A "spontaneous" crowd greeting Nigel Farage in Clacton was actually filmed on a secluded industrial farm in Great Bentley. Rather than genuine public engagement, the carefully staged scene relied on pre-arranged supporters.
