I’m seeing people reacting by pointing out that he’s obviously wrong. I appreciate that, but it’s also a pointless exercise. The problem isn’t that he’s wrong. The problem is that this is normal in American politics — and it’s been normal for a while.

Prince Maurice's grave is interesting, because it was a good example of the conflicting thoughts families had. Princess Beatrice refused repatriation of the body. She felt he belonged with his men. But she fought for years for the right to spend her own money on a custom headstone. This was blocked

Remembering Prince Maurice of Battenberg, the youngest grandchild of Queen Victoria, who was killed in action on this day in 1914, aged just 23. In December 1918, his cousin, King George V, visited his grave to pay his respects. 📍 Ypres Town Cemetery 🇧🇪

Imagine a world where we are no longer dependent on oil and nuclear energy. It's coming and it's better and that's why the vested interests are doing everything in their power to stop it

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

Good news - they had the gall to put a leaflet through my letterbox - my cocker ripped it to shreds in seconds and I found him spitting it out two minutes later !!!

X is a fascist website run by a fascist. Jeremy Corbyn should be true to his principles and get the fuck off it. He does not do that. And I shall leave it up to you to decide why that is. But frankly i find it hypocritical

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Of course the UK 'doing a better job' has meant that, instead of 60,000 'unelected bureaucrats' as employed across all EU bodies to serve 27 countries, the UK now has an extra 100,000 bureaucrats aka civil servants to cover the same jobs just for 1 country...

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

“While each of us (voted Brexit) for different reasons, we all believed that the UK could do a better job of running its own affairs than *unelected officials* in Brussels could." Ben Houchen... November 2020 Six years later 👇👇👇

Since his ennoblement in Boris Johnson’s 2023 resignation list, Tees Valley regional mayor Lord (Ben) Houchen has claimed more than £25,000 in tax-free daily “attendance” allowances from the House of Lords for 73 days when he hasn’t voted, spoken or performed any recorded parliamentary activity.

There is a surprising minority of Reform 2024 and Leave 2016 voters. It can often be closer to a sixth than a quarter in other surveys, eg 17% of Reform voters favoured join with YouGov in Sept, compared to the 29% of Reform supporting respondents were join in a hypothetical referendum in ours

Wait.... 29% of Reform voters would consider rejoining the EU... and 16% don't know And a mere 51% would vote to stay out. My giddy aunt - this is bonkers

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Public opinion on future UK-EU relationship not yet certain of how far to go. On "join" a 46-29 plurality - with much debate to come, if govt proposed to go all the way in Starting points Labour 64-17 join LibDem 64-16 join Green 67-16 join Conservatives 39-46 stay out Reform 29-51 stay out

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

Peter Geoghegan@petergeoghegan.bsky.social

Wow. Vučić has conceded Serbian election. Massive moment for the entire Balkans

Otto English reposted

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

London is actually getting pleasant to live in. Complete opportunism by the Right but also very stupid politics. When will it dawn on them that the petrol heads and SUV lovers in their ranks are actually a small minority of the electorate?

Finding some of the reaction on here to the 'stockpiling' stuff a bit odd. The Russians successfully firebombed the last prime minister's house! There was a cyberattack on a French supermarket a few weeks ago!

Largely because if you see how much bottled water you'd stock for a family - 4 litres per person per day - if supplies were cut off entirely, the advice would be ignored. Better to aim for 'three days of no internet connection and intermittent power and water supply' and build from there.

Plus, of the 56 signatories of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, 41 owned enslaved people... either at the time of signing or during their lifetimes. So maybe that Xer should pick better role models for 2026.
