It’s not one of those cool stickers elementary school kids are designing in other states, but still pretty happy about this one. Shout out to all the super-helpful poll workers out there, too.

My review of You Can See Everything is that, afterward, my wife asked if we could watch Kiki’s Delivery Service to come down from watching You Can See Everything

One of my favorite college football moments was going to a rain-soaked Yale-Howard game. At halftime the six-person Yale band put on an out-of-tune show followed promptly by the full-strength Howard band with a Super Bowl-grade performance, in front of a crowd of no more than 1,000 people.

Students who nod and smile during lecture when we try to make a point? Heroes

I think I’m going to slowly move all of my day-to-day LaTeX writing over to Typst but I’ll admit I’m not particularly excited about the fixed costs of converting my custom TeX templates

Now seems like a good time to remember if you interface with students that those students - especially those from vulnerable populations - do see what you say/post publicly and will take those as signals as to whether you’re a reliable supporter/friend/mentor when things get tough.

Was just on a Metro bus that hit a cyclist while merging lanes on University Ave. I don’t know if the driver just wasn’t checking his mirrors or what, but it was a pretty loud thump followed by someone saying we hit someone

My favorite scene in The Odyssey is when Matt Damon kicked his helmet and screamed in frustration because what most people don’t know is he actually broke his toe in that shot

Today’s “trying to work but your brain randomly remembers a thing from a long time ago to distract you” moment is brought to you by the time my hometown newspaper negged me as hard as it possibly could

Really excited to see this project in its published form. Another great example of the kind of awesome research that @uwdsi.bsky.social supports

There was one report of softball size (4" diameter) #hail near Maple Bluff, WI Tuesday. (NE Madison metro) Per NOAA's database, the only other occurrence of 4" hail in Dane County dating to 1950 was on July 2, 1960. One of most damaging hail events in Madison history? (📸: Kyle Obremski)

One of the cool parts about being a regular blood donor and using the health charts on the Red Cross blood donor app is you can look at your blood pressure time series and see exactly when you started grad school

I lived in New Haven for a couple years and genuinely loved it. I’m always a little confused when I meet other people who lived there who dislike it. This is based on one weekend trip many years ago so take it with a grain of salt, but I think Omaha is also underrated.

For some positive city discourse: what’s a city that people put down but you think is great? My vote is for Newark.

Now doing this one, but multiple cities: - Tulsa - St. Louis - Springfield, MO - Evansville - Tulsa again for good measure

NEW: When a Wisconsin mayor ended his city's contract with Flock (the AI surveillance company), he was stunned to see Flock refused to remove cameras. So he covered them with plastic bags. Now local activists are taking their fight to Madison & the Dane County sheriff, wanting more cameras gone.
