California's governor and attorney general re-assert state and local law enforcement's right to #ArrestICE, without ever using the word ”arrest.” Artfully written! www.gov.ca.gov/2026/01/27/g...

At your last townhall in California you were asked point blank if you supported soft-secession, and you danced around the answer. Californians are tired of paying the bills for the rest of the country and your stand on this issue will determine whether or not I vote for you!

When asked in June 2025, 72% of Californians said state and local police should arrest federal immigration officers when it is legal to do so. Hopefully, our elected officials are finally starting to catch up with the public. ic.institute/poll

As a western-mostly California-formed person in outlook, there are definitely those feelings..the idea of “soft secession” is gaining ground in several of these states-who were originally forced to band together when trump tried to cut off COVID aid to them and favor red states-guess we’ll see.

@ericswalwell.bsky.social wondering if you've see ic.institute/poll? Not just the surprising numbers about secession and identity, but also the proposed policies. For example, 80% of Californians want strong state border controls, but CA politicians barely ever mention it.

Eric Swalwell said "California is the greatest country in the world and is under attack." Misspeak or not, a Governor who sees California not merely as one of 50 states, but as the Republic of California deserving maximal autonomy would win me over. youtu.be/d9JBWoIqnOM #softsecession

Understandably, many people scoffed at the first (or second, or hundredth) mention of California secession. And it's never properly been studied, because why would we? But the burner only gets so hot before you jerk your hand away. Suddenly New West America doesn't seem so farfetched or silly.

Without calling for blue state secession, I will say this: I think we either find a way to get rid of the Electoral College and the other baked in aspects of our constitutional system that give rabid white Christians disproportionate power, or the country will inevitably split at some point
As much as I fully understand that it's problematic to wish we could split into two countries, because obviously there are lots of non-MAGA people in red states and vice versa ... It's hard not to wish we could just magic all of the non-horrible people into one area a split the fuck off today.

@votecnp.bsky.social This article is painful to read. The immigration policies of the federal government are ripping away Californians who have lived here for years: missionlocal.org/2025/07/ice-... We should be able to set *our own* policies on immigration.

Local media obtained a poll showing California voters approving a potential Democratic redistricting amendment by 52-41 and included the poll’s ballot question wording below. Ballot measures can be notoriously difficult to poll, though
Democratic state legislators in California are reportedly on board with Gov. Newsom’s proposal for a November ballot initiative that would enable them to counteract Republican plans to gerrymander congressional maps in Texas and other states

The article quotes our January poll, but not the latest one, in June: ic.institute/poll. We found that a secession ballot measure would face a steep uphill climb (44% yes, 54% no), but that Californians are broadly in favor of a number of policies that LOOK an awful lot like secession.
