My two cents: this quote gets as close to the essence (imho) of "Digger" as any I've yet read: "We’re left to question, as we wander out of our own theatres and back into the world, whether the apocalypse looms—or if we’ve been living through it all along." www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

This is suo important that I'm re-poasting it. And, damn it, I'll poast it again ...

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well,” White House press secretary Katie Zacharia said Tuesday. "... to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them ..."

and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed.

to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, ...

No judgement, but I have never, once, consciously or subconsciously, been compelled to pick something out of my nose and put it in my mouth. I'm often amazed by the relatively common occurrence of this behavior.

*There must have been an entire culture of telephone refuseniks. "This is dehumanizing! I should be visiting my dear mother, not shouting at her through a dangerous nest of electrical wires"

I'm calling bullshit--not that what's reported here didn't happen, but that the behavior reported is somehow "rogue" (since the software in question wasn't explicitly told to do or not behave a certain way).

The latest update in the rogue A.I. saga: OpenAI agents that were supposed to be performing mundane data requests for things like health data, historic photos and wait times at theme parks resorted to hacking attempts when they couldn't access the data they wanted www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/t...

A software able to hack a system is told to do something and isn't told NOT to hack any system? That's not "rogue" behavior. That's negligence on the part of the software's user to fail to prevent a behavior the user was well aware the software might attempt in it's effort to accomplish a task.

Pretty sure this was an optimal opportunity to point out something to the effect of, "The dumbest MFer on Earth actually had one good idea, despite the following ways he's idiotically, cravenly fucking up our country ..." 🧵 1/49,738

I am in strong agreement with the President. Congress should immediately take up and pass a federal film tax incentive to bring back these good-paying jobs that we've lost to other countries.

Respectfully disagree. While it definitely seems unreal that this dunderhead is anywhere close to the head of the government's health policymaking, there's an equally, if not greater, dunderhead in a position of much more importance and significance.

Even in the Trump era it somehow seems unreal that this dimwitted crackpot is the top public health official for a nation of 350 million people.

Name your fav classic Film Noir. "Body Heat" (1981) Great to watch after "Double Indemnity," where you can see William Hurt's character is just as much of a sexist creep as Fred MacMurray's character (as are basically all the men in the movie.)

for a junk drawer to legally qualify as a real junk drawer, what is the ONE absolute mandatory item it must include? A takeout menu from a restaurant that's been out of business for at least 5 years.

With all of the unnecessary, frivolous prosecutions, the unnecessary bombing and combat, the unnecessary overly armed ICE raids, and this horseshit, historians will refer to this time in American history as "The Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Age." 🙄

A hot take nobody asked for: Despite the many suggestions that Park Chan-wook's 2013 film "Stoker" is a "southern Gothic" or is heavily influenced by Hitchcock (neither which I would contest), I think the film is quite arguably best characterized as and most influenced by the giallo genre.

I don't mean this as snark or as a criticism of anyone, but I'm hoping the Platner campaign ends in part because (and this is not a new opinion) there's been nothing in this cycle more tedious than Platner commentary. (Not a indirect endorsement/tacit approval of Nazi tattoos or sexual assault.)

Holy shit- I just realized that, if borthright citizenship isn't recognized in the USA (as it pretty clearly states in the Constitution), then we're a nation of Anchor babies and the descendants of Anchor babies. Even the offspring of the original colonists and everyone since... 🙃

Good thing our President is focusing on things important to all Americans, like a White House ballroom, a golf course, the number of trees in a park in D.C., oh, and jacking up the cost of everything. Thank God WaPo is ready and able to fluff him. 🙄

A sweeping overhaul of East Potomac Golf Links will begin Sept. 1, President Trump said Sunday after he toured the century-old municipal course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio and White House aides.

As a Bulls fan that, all things being equal, backs the underdog (or team that hasn't recently won it all over the one that has), I'm happy for the Knicks and their fans, but I'm especially happy that now I can go back to hating the Knicks. 🙃 #Bullschampsin2030

Ok so a twist on the deserted island movie game. This time you can have the filmography of any actor, but ONLY where they aren’t a lead. Supporting roles, bits, and cameos only. Me? I’m taking Michael Caine, even though it means I don’t get my beloved Muppet Christmas Carol.
