I hate knowing what it means for everyone when it does. But we've been putting that disaster off since 2020. It's like trying to keep from puking. It was always gonna happen, so better to stick a toothbrush down your throat and get it over with. Good luck everyone.

So this is awful of me but my mom died several years ago and we have her cremains in a box and the slogan on the banner made me imagine for one wild moment marching into OpenAI’s headquarters, plonking her box down at reception, and shouting, “LOOK WHAT YOU DID”

It is a very cool drawing! I quite like it. It illustrates the vast gulf between the cheap slop Google tries to jam down every search result, and the quality you get after the $200 plan works for a minute with an ultra model. I hate the former. I am quite happy with the latter.

"leaves you behind" is the BIGGEST lie, as the "bros" are DESPERATE for people to FEEL as if they're been left behind. More and more they lose money, wasted on AI that not a lot of people wanna use. Wish it was nobody, but there's always someone. Not enough thou, they're so much in debt #fuck #ai

From the start (though I can't actually point to when that was) I've treated AI the same as things like meth: not even once. I'll be sticking with that, at least until we have actual AI, the sort that presents reasoned arguments for its own citizenship, not just Eliza with better data handling.

A follow up where they run into a giant corporate "Opt Out" wall, stalling them just long enough to get caught and the gAI to go "Look! Everyone loves using me!" to cheat +1 user to their statistics. There's no other reason for it to be opt-out, except that initial burst of "New users."

I’ve always regarded voting a civic duty. As I have mobility difficulties- no driving licence & not informed I’d be non-person if I didn’t renew my passport couldn’t renew my postal vote. It took some effort to vote in person in May (1st outing in 2026 not to medical appt!) Blue Badge accepted!

Person at my work kept sending phone messages that had been AI dictated into the group chat. They were absolute gibberish, incomprehensible, and I was supposed to respond to word salad. Took forever for them to stop using this wonder technology

I like to think of AI as simply a tool, something not inherently good or bad, that can and should be used ethically. Of course, we all know why everybody is hating on AI these days.

Well, that's the problem right there. It can never be used ethically. Not unless the company who owns it has signed contracts for every person they've scraped data from. (And royalties, that would be nice)

AI writes pretty words that tricks people into thinking there was thought put into them, when there wasn't. For example - none of us can fully trust that your post wasn't written with AI. With that in mind, the suggestion that "everyone knows why" could have zero substance behind it. That's harmful

Still love that there's an AI company called Hugging Face, obviously named for the face huggers from the Alien franchise, which have nothing but good intentions for your throat and were certainly not intended to symbolize anything in particular.

I always hear of AI being presented as a universal tool. It can do everything you ask it to and can do it fast. But I would want my tools to be predictable. The same input should always deliver the same result and not deliver me a best guess of what I might want.

I'm not saying AI is useless. There are things its really good at like pattern recognition. And it's great to brute force results like the recent discovery in the math problem of simulating fluids. It was a problem that was extremely difficult to solve for a long time.

But creation isn't an unsolved problem. To write code, a story or draw pictures you need intent and practice. When you know what you want to create you work piece by piece to get there. By prompting AI you hope that it will randomly get it right or you just accept whatever is closest to your idea.

My actual concern as a software engineer. If I use it to generate code, I must be able to review it. Where do I get the skills to review it? From taking the time to write challenging code.

Also in software & well, I don't want to automate away the last fun part, there's enjoyment in figuring stuff out Then hang remembering it for next time I've got to solve the same problem

Anything you're forced into and you can't shut it off is suspicious to me. If it is soooooo awesome, then we could shut it off, and it would stand on its own. It can't even write a title/description from a specification details on a product on Walmart without screwing it up 😆 😂

What have they actually accomplished, though? A weird picture of a cat in a hat? Bro you can do that in less than a minute with a pencil and a piece of paper. Started a business? So you've offloaded some key decisions to the machine and don't understand how a key part of your business works?

Are you honestly capable of producing a similar quality result in less than a minute with a pencil? If you are able to do so, please record your process. I'd be rather impressed by such an ability.

Even if it did leave you behind it's not like AI takes any special skill or effort to "catch up." When AI bros give you this "friendly warning" it's so disingenuous. They are boasting they want to destroy your livelihood permanently and mad you haven't surrendered use of your brain to them yet.

Yeah… Like we’re gonna have •ANY• CHOICE• … Beyond what, •Machine Sexting, My-Little-Pony-TechBrony-BILLIONAIRES? •… TELL us?…. Is ‘GOOD for US’…

Don’t forget the constant surveillance and building of dossiers on everybody. The extreme loss of privacy and weaponization of personal data are big drivers of the anti-data centers backlash, too. Wonder why that part doesn’t get mentioned as much? 🤔🙄😑

Past Broligarchs shenanigans and grotesque greed killed any gullibility to automatically trust whatever they propose. Plus, they don’t do themselves any favors when they hop on social media to display short sighted dumbness and small minded bigotry. Rich guys & corps value their privacy, we do too.
