"Metroidvania" is weird to me. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was inspired by Metroid. Why are they not just called Metroid-likes? Metroid-esques. Metroidoids. Like, imagine if Roguelikes were called "Rogue(first game inspired by Rogue)likes"

The thing about Street Fighter (and really all Capcom IPs) is that they are intentionally ridiculous, but treated seriously. The games never *admit* that they're ridiculous. The new movie doesn't get that. It asks you to laugh. It apologizes for its source material.

Guile in the games is a military man who values precision so much that he perfectly landscapes his flat top haircut. The movie makers just see a silly haircut and decide that this person must be a clown. For all its faults, I feel like the 90s movie at least got this.

The new movie has some cool stuff. Anime flashbacks is such a good idea. And some of the fight choreography is pretty slick. But I think it doesn't get Street Fighter.

I like the book, but I have to admit that the movie massively improved the story. It's a "one walked so the other could run" kind of thing, of course, but man that movie's good.

My favorite memory of this show is showing it to my non-anime Dad, who quietly considered it and seemed to enjoy it. And then he said, "Oh, so he's the ghost in the shell"

Sen, but Spooky@dresdencodak.com

My most toxic trait is probably how I'll randomly bring up and defend the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime. Does it get extremely weird? Is the "worldbuilding" kind of bananas? Yes but these make it BETTER. Also Brotherhood wasn't brave enough to give us Ed teaming up with Fritz Lang to fight Nazis.

I read this whole kickstarter page and, lemme tell you, the reason it has no warning labels is because there is nothing to warn you about. But also, it doesn't look bad? It's anti-AI, got some good ol' indie grit and elbow grease, and a couple of neat ideas. They didn't need this as a gimmick.

JellyMuppet@jellymuppet.bsky.social

dog idk how i tell you this, but "no warning label" is a warning label. i love this project has to warn people there won't be trigger warnings so they don't get triggered

Also worth noting this is the only mention of "warning labels." It's not anywhere in the Kickstarter text. This "THEY are AFRAID of publishing this" tone isn't there either. It feels like some weirdo put that on after someone else wrote the bulk of the Kickstarter lol

It reminds me of that time Ricky Gervais announced he was playing a character who rejected WOKE and said what he MEANT, and then it turned out it was After Life, a show about a man who was broken after the death of his wife lol

gonna relisten to the entire Dorkspawn Dragon Age run and cry into a bottle of wine Thinking about the myriad of corporate tragedies that led to this, I bitterly think back to David Gaider's beautiful dedication in The Stolen Throne. I'm so, so sorry to everyone at the BioWare team affected.

My friend, you are in luck. My speech is at 3:15:00, and then the spiciness starts around 4:10:00ish (you can see Casey, Don, and Pat try to explain why they didn’t support the police budget increase and it only gets better from there)

I feel like we need video, but also feel that it couldn't do your descriptive talents any justice.

The instinct to interpret everything Trump says as absolute Bananatown is not a bad one, but the hot mic "every question is a kill" thing is really one of the more normal things he's said. I used to be a reporter and literally every elected official in the US thinks that way. Even small town mayors.

I agree that flippantly using a war metaphor about killing human targets to praise someone for handling a press conference well is upsetting, but it's a much, much broader problem with U.S. culture that precedes and goes well beyond Trump

Five movies that are, like... Me. Myself. These aren't my five best movies ever; these aren't even my five favorite movies. They just paint a good picture of my soul. 1. The Fall (2006) 2. The Jetsons Movie (1990) 3. A Knight's Tale (2001) 4. Downsizing (2017) 5. Double Indemnity (1944)

Downsizing is my example of a movie that *changed* me. Floored me. I couldn't believe how good and original and groundbreaking it was. Then I found out everyone else *hated* it. I could write essays on this movie. Books. Don't judge this one by its trailers. They are intentionally deceptive.

Double Indemnity is my black-and-white pick. I watched a lot of classic noir as research for writing my Gunpointing TTRPG. Some of it was good (Strangers on a Train). Some of it was sorta disappointing (cough North by Northwest). But I thought about Double Indemnity for weeks.

There's not a lot to say about A Knight's Tale. I just think it's a prime example of a well-crafted movie. It sprinkles just the right amount of a lot of things-- romance, comedy, history, creative anachronism. Hell of a cast, too.

So Danny Trejo was manipulated and tricked into being in Ben Shapiro's newest film. Holy shit.

This is very 40-Year-Old territory, but I was today years old when I found out the "Weena Mercator as the hopping woman" gag on Freakazoid was entirely made up. I assumed it was a real actor and role from an obscure movie that the writers thought sounded funny.

I can't catch up on my own podcast, so I'm catching up on my friends'! Jesus, they work so hard on this. I also love how Kendo says "drawing on elements from 80s sci-fi, action, and horror films...and anime." Not as if they're ashamed of anime, but like they're daring you to shame them.

If you say we have to vote for non-trans-supportive Dems to stop Republicans… 1. Would you say that if they supported literacy tests at the polls to "cut down on illegals voting"? 2. Would you say the same thing if they said they support bans on abortions until the woman has 9 months of therapy?
