BAAJA is a blank check that lets industry bulldoze protections for clean water, wild salmon, and our health. With more than 75 separate rollbacks, it’s the biggest attack on our nation’s bedrock environmental laws since the 1970s. inletkeeper.org/what-the-act...
The public has until October 23 to tell federal agencies that a 27% scenario doesn't capture the risks facing the Kuskokwim. Take action by commenting today or attending the virtual public hearing on Monday, October 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. inletkeeper.org/standwiththe...
If you are as concerned about this project as we are, please join us in urging KPB Mayor Micciche and the Borough Assembly to oppose DeepGreen’s project at every stage. All borough residents can comment on record during Assembly meetings; the next meeting will be Oct. 20th at 6 pm.
We're deeply concerned about the proposed underwater data center project in Cook Inlet. Are you? Plan to comment at the next KPB Assembly meeting on Oct. 20, and tell them you want action on this issue. We put together a toolkit to help you prepare ↓ inletkeeper.org/wp-content/u...
At Cook Inletkeeper, we’re always looking for new and meaningful ways for our donors to create lasting impact by protecting the Cook Inlet watershed and the life it sustains. Right now, a national movement called #HalfMyDAF helps your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) grants go even farther.
Korea has not agreed to invest $54 billion in the proposed trans-Alaska natural gas pipeline — and has not even agreed to invest at all. The nation's industry minister, Kim Jung-kwan, implied that the Trump administration lied at a White House news conference. #aklng
A major dam failure at the huge gold mine proposed for rural Western Alaska could unleash catastrophic flooding that would make one village uninhabitable, poison drinking water sources and cause lasting damage to fish habitat, according to a new analysis by federal regulators.

Few people know that these fat bears face an ominous threat from the proposed Johnson Tract mine, which would be located inside Lake Clark National Park and Preserve — a lesser-known secret of the Bear Coast north of Katmai. #fatbearweek #keepbearsfat www.npca.org/articles/115...
It’s the first day of Fat Bear Week 2026 in Katmai National Park, and a proposed mine in a neighboring national park has conservationists raising concerns about what the development could mean for the region’s wildlife and protected lands. Read more ↓ www.backpacker.com/news-and-eve...
Every fall, roughly 1.7 million people cast their vote for the fattest bear of Fat Bear Week in Katmai National Park. But just up the coastline, in Lake Clark National Park, the proposed Johnson Tract gold mine threatens to change this bear paradise. inletkeeper.org/keep-bears-f...

The recent Trading Bay “mystery” sheens are just the latest warning sign of industry neglect. Every leak and spill puts our waters, workers, and communities at risk, and these infrastructure failures will only get worse. Read more ↓ inletkeeper.org/the-un-myste...

“This is one more reminder of why having oil and gas in our backyard is a liability to the marine ecosystems we rely on for our livelihoods and well-being. Enough is enough; we have to start holding operators accountable for dismantling retired infrastructure.” www.kdll.org/local-news/2...

With the Trump administration's $89 million grant to the Terra Energy Center coal project, still more public dollars are going to the ludicrous proposal to build a 1.2-gigawatt coal plant roughly 60 miles from the nearest existing infrastructure. www.adn.com/opinions/202...
To understand the proposed Johnson Tract Mine, we must recognize that the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) was intended to open land to extraction. Read more in this blog ⤵︎ inletkeeper.org/understandin...
A 7-year mine is a drop in the bucket for building a stable, long-term supply chain. Extracting such a short-term resource in the middle of Lake Clark National Park is more about political showmanship than a meaningful contribution to American mineral independence. inletkeeper.org/johnson-trac...

Another decision that puts industry over people. The Trump administration just gave Big Oil another handout by merging two federal departments that oversee oil and gas activities in federal waters. This merger raises the risk of oil spills like the Exxon Valdez and Deepwater Horizon disasters.
We have concerns about the groundwater hazards that injected CO2 could pose. For those truly worried about coal’s carbon emissions, there is a guaranteed, cost-effective way to sequester it: leave it underground where it is and build renewable energy instead. #TerraEnergyCenter #KeepItInTheGround
Scrapping the definition of harm and gutting the Endangered Species Act is a blatant handout to industries that care more about short-term profits than the survival of countless species or the health of our ecosystems.
Electronics Recycling 2026 was a great success. We diverted over 36,000 lbs of electronics from local landfills this year, and since we started, we have collectively diverted more than 700,000 lbs of electronic waste.
AK LNG’s Nikiski terminal would represent a 42-74% increase in Cook Inlet’s present-day large ship traffic plowing through endangered Cook Inlet beluga critical habitat.

Thank you, Nat Hertz, for asking about climate change. It affects us all, even if we don't believe in it. Cook Inletkeeper does not support or oppose any candidate running for elected office. #WhatWouldJesusDo #NorthernJournal #NathanielHerz
As we celebrate the DOJ’s affirming stance on Pebble’s unacceptable risk to Bristol Bay, we keep our eyes on the long-term solution: State-driven protections for the entire Bristol Bay watershed.
Inletkeeper and local groups hold electronics recycling events each spring, diverting over 667,000 lbs of e-waste since 2004. Bring devices on May 2nd in Homer and Soldotna, May 9th in Seward, and at drop-off sites in Seldovia, Ninilchik, Port Graham, and Nanwalek in May.
