This is an untrue and dangerous take from George Lee, Environment Correspondent for our national broadcaster. Emissions do not "cancel out" other emissions, nor do they negate efforts made towards a healthier world. Shameful, climate-denying reporting. www.rte.ie/news/2026/10...

@irishtimes.com IT just dropped their Winter Edition of climate reporting and imagery dissonance. The Super El Niño will cause extreme weather, when more people than ever will struggle to heat their homes due to fossil dependency. Celebrating this phenomenon is ignorant, harmful journalism.

People need assistance during this fuel crisis, but this is not the way to do it. Government has bowed to pressure from right wing lobbyists that chain us to fossil fuel dependence. The debt for this will be paid in human health and wellbeing. www.rte.ie/news/budget-...

When we let fossil fuel companies influence policy, we weave failure into governance. The science-policy-action interface is not so much a gap as it is a wilful roadblock, built on inertia, status quo bias, cognitive dissonance and above all, greed.

The situation is dire. I gave two talks last year on Planetary Health - I had to actually update my slides from the July event to the October one, in order to reflect ANOTHER boundary being crossed. THAT'S how fast this is happening.

The Planetary Health Check 2026 report has been released. www.planetaryhealthcheck.org 🩺If our planet were an ICU patient, it would be crashing. 🚨All alarms blaring. 🩻Chest compressions. ⚡Defibrillator. Instead, our leaders are ignoring the crash call. We need full, committed action NOW.

16,000 heat-related deaths in Germany - yet the German government now spends €2.5billion on fossil fuel subsidies. Meanwhile, here in Ireland, we don't even know how to calculate our heat-attributable deaths, and are expected to spend a whopping €7.5billion in fossil fuel subsidies this year!!! 🤯

My letter in today's @irishtimes.com regarding our government's myriad terrible decisions - data centres, fossil dependency, energy sovereignty, and of course, health! www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...

Government are desperately trying to put a band-aid over the problem, while refusing to implement real, long-term solutions. The Irish public are victims of the fossil capitalism that our government insists on chaining us to - our people, our patients.

Crude oil has not dipped below $60/barrel since Feb 2021, currently at €100.05, expected to rise to €100.9 in Q3. In Ireland, the pump price of diesel & petrol has not dipped below €1.50/litre since June 2021. Remember, these prices are WITH excise duty/tax reductions & fuel support package.

Cost-effiency of greener healthcare primarily comes through prevention, though resource management is important too. When we incorporate holistic, nature-based solutions at both community and acute levels, we can treat the whole person, and prevent chronic illness 🌱🩺

These solutions mean we can look after our patients wholly, beyond their medical condition, at some of the most difficult and distressing times of their lives. Instead of this, Minister Chambers would rather entrench us in fossil dependence. There is no debate about public health expenditure.

Ireland ranks as the 11th highest in the world for fossil fuel subsidies per capita, with €4.7billion spent by the Exchequer on fossil fuels in 2025. The State must invest in health over harm - including green, sustainable healthcare. Greener healthcare is, in fact, extremely cost effective 👇

1/ "Every fraction of a degree of warming matters." True, and a dangerous platitude. It quietly suggests warming is a smooth dial, where each tenth of a degree costs about the same as the last. It doesn't. The later ones cost far more. Here's why. 🧵

Farmers are stewards of our land, and should absolutely be supported as such - but in the right way. We must adopt new models of agroecological farming urgently. How we farm in Ireland - mostly livestock - will cost our farmers, our land and health immensely. www.irishtimes.com/environment/...

'tis and all! Protested the fare increases on behalf of @irishdocsenv.bsky.social yesterday. The fare increases are absolutely an attack on public health and well-being. This decision will cost lives.

Yesterday we protested the fare increases. Thousands die every year from air pollution, noise pollution, stress and sedentary activity. This is in addition to lives lost on the road. Tethering us to fossil fuels and private car use will cost lives.
