I wonder if the "Consciousness" battle is itself a battle over what English even defines. I would love to hear people with English Degrees having opinions on this, because right now it only feels like the layperson deciding what mouthfeels best to them.

As an aside, LLMs et al are amazing at this kind of "Well this and this means this" work, but it's my opinion that Humanity needs to decide on this for themselves. "Who are we?" should not be decided by an outsider, despite how history will teach us that that is the way.

I know it's a "AI is a SaaS" thing, but I don't really enjoy the Performance vs Cost graphs. Give me a nice (Probably T)FLOP number please

a reminder that Apple Music’s native iOS App still can’t cope with regaining network access, and requires a full close before it will notice it can access the servers again

I think re AI and programming, they found their niche, and it is the industry that already had generative text as a system. But now instead of a database you can kinda interpret and interact with, it’s a vapid form of English that is built on every stack overflow answer

I think part of the problem with “The X handbook” for identifying trends, is that they’re not deliberately following that handbook. They’re doing what they feel is right and it just happens to follow those observations. They don’t have a name for it because they haven’t thought about it.

I am getting to a point where I'd rather GPT Written Text had a watermark on it, so I didn't have to insult people by having that Doubt in my mind about who wrote it.

I think the graphs saying AI is more efficient than a human are excusing the fact that most uses for AI are competing against code. It’s reached levels of “I will not try and automate any of this, because the AI can muddle through it” that chimneysweeps would beg for

It’s amazing how averse to language people are, that there is an entire industry in using different words that people are less scared of, instead of saying “we’re going to charge people money for services”

Thinking about how "Definite" and "Indefinite" are about defining as an action. "You are defined by this pronoun" meaning "I know exactly who you're talking about", and then indefinite being "You could be a part of this but there's options" Rather than the royal we; "Me but I'm taking you down too"

Internet Providing Companies should be allowed to have their Devices sign requests with "Yes this person has a Credit Agreement and are therefore an adult, shut up" And if you don't want the kids to get auto-enrolled in that, maybe you have to enable it on their Dashboard

Google seem to be under the impression that they can just eat everyone’s websites forever, without the websites deciding to just delist themselves from Google because of the no traffic coming from them.

I’m yet to find a website genre more reminiscent of 00s browsers with too many toolbars than the humble cookery site. At this stage, there’s less browser than advert

I know it’s a joke, but Fictional Universes set in New York could have demolished the twin towers for any reason they want to. They don’t have to copy history 1:1

I find that I appreciate a person’s intentions better than the outcome. deciding to paint a sunset scene with oils is a lot more enjoyable to me than just seeing an oil painting.
