Brisk, smart spot promoting candidates I dig. πŸ‘‡πŸ»

We can't tell you how to vote for mayor, but we can tell you that it's safe to vote for a voice, a place, and a future for all Vancouverites. β€’ Better Community Centres β€’ More Child Care β€’ Safer Streets This Saturday October 17th, vote OneCity for Council, Park & School Boards before 8 πŸ˜οΈπŸš²πŸ—³οΈ

CATS WITH JOBS?! The @onecityvan.bsky.social platform promises a β€œWorking 🐈 Program” modelled on NYC's approach to bodega cats -- "a chemical-free means of pest control and a genuine piece of neighbourhood life for our small shops." Another reason to vote OneCity! www.onecityvancouver.ca/platform

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the autonomous vehicle developers who most vocally argued that society must accept a certain number of deaths to enjoy the technology's safety benefits (Tesla & Uber ATG) were the only ones who killed people and never actually delivered on their promises

This is a tough election for pro-housing votersβ€”we don't even have 10 good council candidates, let alone a solid mayor choice. But here's what I can say: please do NOT vote for Stephanie Smith (Green). She consistently opposes the pro-housing movement and will only set the city back.

Here's the narrative being spoon fed to β‰ˆ50 million MAGA: 1. Canada has long taken advantage of us, now they must pay. [Counter-tariffs introduced] 2. Canada is trying to hurt our economy 3. Canada is trying to influence our elections ----> YOU ARE HERE <---- 4. Canada is a hostile foreign actor

Yesterday the regime promised to deploy the NSA and other defence intelligence agencies to "identify, disrupt, and neutralize foreign interference in U.S. democratic processes." If these elections don't go the way the regime wants, it's going to be looking for someone to blame.

New @onecityvan.bsky.social public safety plan "delivers safer streets, crisis response when you need it most, housing first as the foundation to a safe city, and basic maintenance of public spaces so people feel safe in every neighbourhood." Muni election is Oct 17!

"When they're selling these #AI #DataCentres, they're not talking about the #NaturalGas wells that need to be drilled to support this or the water that's going into #fracking wells for that natural gas. #Meta is being a face for the #FossilFuels industry, as are the other tech bros in this effort."

β€œParkland's environmental safety director Jacki Hess expressed concerns that releasing of the documents directly to MetroVan means they could eventually be made public in future FOIAs…” and β€œwould significantly harm Parkland's competitive position and interfere with [its] negotiating position."

So are we all good with Vancouver's Aclara Resources (TSX: ARA) accepting USD$750M from the U.S. govt to build a Louisiana facility that will process ionic clays from its South America mines into materials for permanent magnets used in Tomahawks, F-35s, and radar/sonar systems...?

Good short 🧡 flagging a brewing identity crisis among tech execs πŸ‘‡πŸ»

e.w. niedermeyer@niedermeyer.online

there's a whole lot going on in "AI discourse" but a lot of it arises from people who work in tech still not getting it that the baseline perception of their work has been shifting hard for at least a decade, from "one of the more positive aspects of society" toward a much more ambivalent view

From July, immediately following the release of 3 endangered Vancouver Island marmots to the wild. This year, we have released and translocated 53 of these marmots to mountains on the Island as part of our recovery efforts for this incredible species.

Based on online cycling discourse, I have learned... - When cyclists use the road, people complain they should be on the pavement. - When cyclists use the pavement, people complain they should be on the road. - When cyclists use dedicated bike lanes, people complain those lanes shouldn't exist.

City Hall needs to stop tying the shoelaces together of people starting a business. It’s time to bet on Vancouverites & make it easier to start, grow & scale your business. OneCity will build a city that leads B.C. in prosperity, good jobs & fair wages for every one of our neighbours. 🧡1/11
