Hey #YYC, we're doing a fun new twist to our #HubAndSpokes bike tours with our Sept 19th #Biodiversity Bike Jam & we'd LOVE to have you along for the ride. All the fun and good fellowship of a bike tour with a little #CitizenScience thrown in!
RSVP: www.calgaryclimatehub.ca/walk_on_the_...#yycbike
Along with us for the ride was Hub friend #MaskwasisBoysis who gave us some much appreciated #Indigenous perspective on the flora, fauna and history of the region. He does a lot of really great stuff on a number of important things here in Calgary & we look forward to working with him again soon!
We should also send a special shout-out to our longtime friends at #BowCycleEbikes down at #RiverWalkPlaza in #EastVillage for co-sponsoring this event & hooking up Maskwasis with one of their wicked e-bikes! #Ebikes#BowCycle
We do NOT WANT ANY MORE #DATACENTERS in #Alberta! There are over 20 working in our province tight now! Stop the #MEGA#DATACENTER outside #Edmonton, #Alberta
It will use as much
#water and #power as our ENTIRE CITY!
if (big if obviously but for many this is the approach) you ignore the pollution/GHG/etc impacts of combusting natural gas it's a completely coherent strategy. Which is why I increasingly think the idea that data centres will net improve climate outcomes by driving renewable growth isn't correct.
Very typical that the govt pitch makes no mention of pollution or greenhouse gases. Just natural gas being turned into pure intelligence.*
*Some conditions apply
In Alberta a big part of the strategy is data centres as "digital refining" to produce value from additional natural gas use (and leverage the cold weather).
This is not some kind conspiracy theory but clearly stated on the website describing the data centre strategy
www.alberta.ca/datacentres/...
It's time to take our power back!
Doug Ford is allowing US tech billionaires to take our water, raise our bills and pollute our air.
Join us in calling for a provincial moratorium on AI Data Centres in Ontario now.
"I've been in many #HubAndSpokes rides & met people who'd never been on a bike downtown but once they actually get on those #BikePaths, just like a young woman said to me, 'I can do this, no problem. Before, it was a nonstarter to even conceive of riding a bike downtown!' That's how change happens"

Today's essential read for all of humanity.
“Keep one eye on the world as it is, and the other on the world as it ought to be, confusing neither and abandoning neither,”
And finally, in 2021 just slightly MORE CALGARIANS VOTED in favour of not ash-traying our planet than those that voted to STAY IN CANADA in the 2026 #Referendum.
That's a POWERFUL MAJORITY of Calgarians in favour of #ClimateAction right here in Calgary.
So who's speaking to them right now?
In closing, I 100% endorse this message and I too "will now run through a wall for nurses, anytime, anywhere." #HealthCare#cdnpoli#abpolibsky.app/profile/shan...

Also with us for the kickoff were two members of the Hub's #Headwaters Protection and Restoration team. #WaterIsLife and Albertans face a water crisis. We need to reinstate the #CoalMining Moratorium, stop polluting & more!

We met up on our bikes on a gorgeous Saturday morning at #JaipurBridge near #EauClairePlaza, our devices loaded up with the #iNaturalist app & ready to learn from each other & the world around us about Calgary's #DowntownBiodiversity (& there's more than you'd think!) #yyc#yycbike#yycbiodiversity
Along with us for the kickoff was our awesome new friend, Tish Forteath of #SoilJoy to tell use a little about the value of living #Soil, #Compost and all the LIFE you can find in the earth itself if you know how to look!

Schools, arenas and daycare centres are where community happens.
But for many Indigenous communities these buildings are also aging and in need of repair.
@yourcier.bsky.social is working with communities to address this problem, and their lessons are well-worth sharing.

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth.
Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why.

"Trump threatening us, an #ElbowsUp movement I support entirely but I sure as hell don't support more pipelines & now a wholly unnecessary #Separatism#Referendum. How do we deal with all of these great big overbearing pressures yet continue to fight for the things that need to happen?" #cdnpoli

we are in trouble.
there's no denying it.
and we're in a crazy alternative world where we're pretending everything is A-OK.
It's not.
Let's do more. Let's pressure our poliiticians to fight harder, for us.
Parse out the voters that didn't actually want to separate but wanted to "send a message to Ottawa™️" & the official #Separatism vote number might at best hit 10%.
For the record a larger percentage of Americans believe in FAIRIES than Albertans that legitimately want to separate from Canada #abpoli
Canadian LNG Buyers Are European, But the Cargoes May Go to Asia
@seb_kennedy of @EnergyFluxNews with a deep dive into the future of Canadian LNG.
Canadian LNG prospects not nearly as bright as Ottawa, AB and BC claim.

A rainy day, but amazing to see Oxford Street opening up!
Brilliant watching people realise they could step off the pavement and enjoy the full space.
How long until we’re asking “Wasn’t it always like this?”
More streets like this please: greener, healthier and more welcoming.
I’m very hopeful for plug-in (“balcony”) solar + small batteries for renters.
It’s even making progress in the USA due to bipartisan energy cost concerns. Swiftly passes in state legislatures.
EXCL: The Soho Society is trying to stop the redevelopment of a deserted office because it would make Soho too busy.
They claim that adding new bars, restaurants and cheap office space would alter its "established character as a quieter civic and green space".
My @the-londoner.bsky.social scoop:
Possibly the first time I've seen Anthropic publicly mention climate change and it's...arse-covering in their public filing 🫠
Also hand-wringing that they won't be able to gobble up enough fossil fuels because all the other AI and data centre companies are also trying to gobble up fossil fuels
Here's an interesting one: nearly the same percentage of Calgarians that did NOT want Alberta #Separatism thought that our #OilAndGas history, rather than hampering our ability to fight #ClimateChange, should MAKE US LEADERS IN the TRANSITION to #RenewableEnergy. Neat huh?

At the national level, the biggest portion of the bill has landed on the US at $160 billion, a third of the total. China follows with $54 billion and Canada with $17 billion.
This is still one of my favourite videos ever, perfectly explaining the staggering amount of public money that’s going into NOT solving traffic congestion.
“It means you spend a lot of money now for a very short-term benefit."
Jevon’s Paradox via Australia’s great show “Utopia.”
Please share!
Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream, 1000 acre park and improved public transit, not only did it TRANSFORM the city’s public life and economic success, but the car traffic got better.
The car traffic got BETTER.

My advice to politicians across Canada & around the world is when you take wildly popular, important policy off the table entirely & replace it with junk we all know has no future, don't be surprised when you find yourself fighting for the scraps with bad actors & losing bsky.app/profile/bigc...

In the next provincial election Albertans will choose between pipelines from the Left vs Pipelines from the Right. Canadians faced that same choice last federal election
Here in #YYC I doubt there's a single council member that's publicly said the words #ClimateChange in 2026 #cdnpoli#abpoli
