I did a video for our next gig on November the 20th at Gallery No30 in Petersfield. If you turn the sound on you'll hear an excerpt from our next release which is happening on the same day.

Very heartening to see that not all US institutions have been muzzled. Though WHOI seems to be almost on its own amongst US institutions in currently telling the truth about climate.

🌊 Are our fears of sea level rise exaggerated? Scientists have been raising alarms for decades that sea level rise will flood coastal communities, but what evidence is there? Turns out—a lot. 🧐 Learn more through the WHOI Ocean Learning Hub:go.whoi.edu/sealvl

This made me think - Americans are going to have to be prepared to endure more serious consequences and make sacrifices if they want to save their country. They don't seem to want to do that. Just the merest hint that funding will be withdrawn and they capitulate.

Tegan and I had a great afternoon playing at South Hill Park Art Centre in Bracknell with The Crayon Angels, Phelim Mader and John Stedman. Unfortunately we didn't get any pics but we did play this brand new song...

Really looking forward to playing at this with The Cutting Room. We had a rehearsal today and there are some amazing ideas coming out which might make an appearance on Sunday. #musicsky

I'm one of those without a podcast. They don't really appeal to me. But I have some good microphones, pop shields and a nice studio... Should I have a podcast?

Alasdair Cameron@alasdaircameron.bsky.social

Right now, all over Britain, there are people without podcasts. Some opinions are going unspoken, a few moments undocumented. But it doesn't need to be like this. Just £50 a month could buy these middle aged men a pop shield for their microphone. Text TEARS to 84199 and give everyone a voice.

I've kept an eye on my contributions but, seeing this article, I checked again this morning - only to find HMRC now saying that I've missed a year (which I haven't). Is this a glitch or am I going to have to fight my way through their systems to find someone to talk to?

It is worth reading the whole thread - but this came across as disturbing...

Compared with the GPs my mother was secretary for in the 1980s today’s GPs are trained to follow protocols and NOT to investigate symptoms and research causes when a patient’s distress is disproportionate to what they see as the ‘reasons’. That is part of what’s not fit for purpose in today’s NHS.

The last paragraph in the picture sums up what I'm thinking right now.

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

Interesting reading - but it appears they weren't actually using Claude to develop the guidance algorithms as some of these have been in the public domain for many years. Claude was just adding the finishing touches and applying these algorithms to the particular platform.

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

It was really interesting to read what one well known author thought about writing radio plays 100 years ago.

Joel Morris@gralefrit.bsky.social

Morning! Time for a deliciously waspish 1926 attack on the way writers are treated, by A A Milne. It's a broadside at the nascent BBC, but it's even more timely now it's "all just content". "Hush hush Whispers be stayed Alan A Milne Is throwing some shade." open.substack.com/pub/joelmorr...

Indeed, and that is why we need everyone to pull together in working towards genuine climate mitigation and adaptation. Astronomically expensive techofantasy concepts are distractions, not solutions, and giving them free, unbalanced publicity is not helpful.

This is an excellent article that isn't behind a pay wall.

There is an absolutely terrific article in the FT today: 'How sentencing of 3 child rapists ignited public anger' by @georginaq.bsky.social I am generally of the opinion that the justice system should be more about protection than punishment and this article explores that tension. Well worth a read

Posts like this about the Belfast riots are really starting to annoy me. There seems to be no recognition from these left leaning commentators that we are coming up to the marching season where tensions are always hightened. I've fed up with facile takes on the situation.

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

History shows us there are 2 options when faced with a rising far right. 1. Deal with it quickly and decisively. 2. Let it win. The great majority reject it. But it doesn't need majority support: just enough thugs to intimidate everyone else. Weakness and indecision by government let it rise.

I've had a couple of fairly well known musicians tell me that I look like Albert Lee.

So who's the most/least flattering person you've ever been compared to? I once got mistaken for Hugh Grant. I also once got told I looked like Bob Geldof...

Today really shows how few music people there are here. Keith Morris died last night - not the photographer, but they keyboard player with The Green Hornets, promoter of 5 Bands for a Fiver at the Wedge and general all round good guy. There's nothing at all about him on Bluesky 😔 RIP Keith

Now only 2 days to go!

The last time I went to the cinema, to see the Bob Dylan movie, there was someone singing along with all the songs. Normally this would be disastrous, but she was actually really good.

This thread seems to confirm the recent decline that I've noticed - particularly in personal posts on Facebook. Nowadays social media seems to be about publicity rather than genuine connections.
