Prison companies are making profit off a system that results in record breaking deaths among a population who in most cases have done nothing wrong other than coming here and asking us for help

New episode of Natural Causes 🌲 In the second of a two part series @jamesstout.bsky.social looks at the federal government's response to the Lochiel land defence and where people who care about the land can go from here. www.iheart.com/podcast/1119...

Our immigration policy began with racism in the Chinese exclusion act. It was always political, it was wielded against the Magonistas for example, operation gatekeeper predates the existence of DHS. This shit goes way deeper than ICE

fwiw all of these floored shelters that are ultralight more or less need a footprint. So consider the cost and weight of that when you’re comparing it

If you’re in San Diego and really want a very lightweight freestanding tent, the REI has one of those Dyneema big Agnes fly creek 1p tents in their returns for like 550, which is less than half of retail. Those tents are crazy light and actually pretty robust, but that’s a lot of money for 1Lb

did is better than thin sil poly in this regard but in my opinion a great use for this tent is foot print plus fly and poles. That’s super light and works fine if there aren’t bugs

#Off

I generally take those camping meals out of their package and vac seal them, add a bit of tvp, and they’re much lighter and smaller that way. I do the same thing when I make my own meals.

I vac seal my food in bags for each day as well to make sure I eat enough. I also delude myself that the food being vacuum sealed will help make it less likely a big old griz will come after my textured vegetable protein and peanut butter.

Just this week, while communities in Florida worked to recover from storm damage ICE came to arrest two roofers in Pensacola. FEMA, on the other hand, was not there.

Between a year and a century ago, @jamesstout.bsky.social said that under Trump 2 the entire country will experience the federal government in exactly the same way at-risk border communities have for decades. The government will either be absent or hostile, and no in-between.

Polling is a crock of shit, but this is wild and deliberate intervention in the electoral process.

As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment"

They’re legit though. I took one down below freezing, gnarly wind etc. if you don’t want to bother with learning to pitch a non freestanding single wall thus is about as light as it gets

It’s fascinating how mayor Todd Gloria remains on X, posting platitudes and getting ratioed by bots. I guess he prefers the false impression that he’s fighting the far right than actually engaging with the issues his constituents face

"Natural Causes" isn't a show just about nature, celebrating nature, recognizing the land stolen from indigenous peoples (and how they tended it before us) and protecting it. It's a show about community and how nature can bring people together. Plus, @jamesstout.bsky.social has a soothing voice.

These are the same people who fucking constantly grandstand about objectivity and bias. Because to them it’s not bias if you’re an islamophobic bigot, that’s just normal in their circles. Bias is when anyone has an opinion, or even just an assembly of facts, that questions power.
